BTW! Students when in clinicals are not supposed to be on the phone at all!!! Where is her instructor? I mean come on. Again there are a lot of good nurses that have come from Miami Dade College, so please do not make such a standard comment like that because you saw TWO bad students or in the hospital who were from Miami Dade College.

Hopefully you will meet other students who are from Miami Dade College who are good nurses, and then maybe they can prove you wrong.

I want and hope they can prove me very wrong!! Maybe their instructor is far to relax. When i was in school we would have been sent home for refusing to do what a nurse told us or using cell phone.

I dont have this problem with the UM students. They are far more willing to work and get their hands dirty. I have had alot more than 2 mdc students in the 3 years i have worked at south miami. I have had more than a 100 and most are the same. I blame the schools as well. They only want the students to pass boards to make them look good.

I got accepted into the MDC nursing program for both the bridge and generic option the FIRST AND ONLY time I applied. My GPA was a 3.2. I think you stand a very good chance to get into either program (generic or accelerated) option. Also, if the accelerated option proves to be too much, you can always go to the generic program which is only one semester longer. Good luck.

Hi Nips,

I noticed you got accepted to the bridge program, that is what I am applying to get into. They said I needed to take a NACE exam and the grade was a big deal to get in. Did you take this test? If so, was it anything to worry about & what to sudy? I am transitioning from the Paramedic program.

P.S. MDC students are in clinicals for 7 hours, not two or three. and professors are very strict.

On my floor they come at 9am and leave around 11:30 everyday. Usually i cant find their instructor.

I don't even know why I try to defend MDC and the students. People have such a negative outlook. I am in MDC and so far I have had a good experience with the professors and the students as well. I also want to state that MOST medical campus students are grown ups with children who are very responsible and dedicated. So speak for yourselves because I know a lot of responsible students, and a lot of very good professors. students like that are everywhere, not just MDC. I also know how long the clinicals are supposed to be and they are not supposed to be for two or three hours. They must have a slacker professor, because I know the most MDC instructors are very into what they are doing and what the work in.

Ok Butterflyyessy i guess we will agree to disagree. I wish you the best in your nursing career.

Hmmm. Not sure where Runman1914 works...But, I do know MDC clinical policy. Students are not to be on the floor unless their instructor is also on the floor. Clinical hours are to be strictly adhered to. No cell phones. Students do all patient care they are allowed. The student cannot refuse to do something "because its gross".

I am going into my 4th semester this fall. In the three preceding semesters, I have NEVER been in a clinical situation where ANY of your allegations were allowed to fly.

If you have a problem or continue to have a problem. I would encourage you to privately email me with details. I can and will forward your complaint to the chair of the nursing school. I believe in the nursing profession and the dignity of our patients and will put a great deal of energy into making this right.

On the other hand, if your going to throw generalizations around, please keep them to yourself. It doesn't do anybody any bit of good.

Thank You

Don't get me wrong not all students are the best, but I refuse to say that ALL MDC students are like that. I am an MDC student and I know I am not like that. So there you go. Even if I was just the only one, which I am not, that would prove that not everyone from MDC is like that.. Hopefully I will be able to prove you wrong myself :D. Anyway enough defending MDC because your stereotype idea of MDC is not going to change, which is a shame because in a way you are putting a lot of good students down. It would have been a bit different if you had said that you had a coupke of bad experiences, but you make it seem like it is MOST of them. I am sure you have not met most students. Usually its ten students in a clinical out of 190 students in the whole college.

Akspudus, your responses are always right on the money. I could not have said it better myself. Good luck in graduation which is just around the corner! I am glad we have someone like you to represent MDC. This is the type of student that I have always seen in the medical campus. Dedicated and responsible. Thanks!

Please understand i have 11 years experience as a RN. Nursing school and the real world are totally different. I have friends at baptist hospital that share my opinion on md students. In my 11 years i have seen hundreds of nursing students from various schools. I speak up for the well fare of patients. Most nurses on my floor refuse to have nursing students.

I enjoy students because i look at them as more help. Im not throwing out generalizations only my experience with md students. And i believe in my 1st amendment right!!!

What I know is that there are plenty of negative and positive people in this world. I am not even going to bother. I hope when I go do my clinicals and I am around a nurse, that it is not a nurse who sees me as an extra set of hands, but who looks to me as a student who is there to learn. I also hope that I do not get stuck with someone that does not like MDC students and refuses to work with me because of what thqt person has seen or heard. I hope I am treated and respected as the individual that I am, and that I am not shawdoed by what someone else said. A person who talks bad about ALL the MDC students is not someone that I would like to have to deal with. I thought nurses were supposed to be understanding and compassionate, not someone who generalizes and stereotypes.

Oh no it's the MDC students, no I refuse to work with that kind! They don't even give a chance to the student. If there is at least one good student there, then that student is worth it. Any good nurse would help the student and not make such absurd comments which may tarnish how others look at that student, just because of what someone or other said. You sound like you are talking about a bunch of teenagers, again most nursing students for MDC are reaponible adults with children and families, I don't know what kind of students you got.

Funny you should mention your first amendment rights. Nursing is going to be my second career. My first career of nearly 20 years has been protecting your beloved 1st amendment rights..as well as any other "right" you might want to claim.

Funny, I have now attended clinical at three major hospitals in Miami. On 5 different floors. Not nearly as awesome as your 11 years of experience..but never the less. On ever floor in every hospital I have not heard one complaint about Miami Dade nursing students. IN fact I have heard quite the opposite. On the other hand...in my other career...I work with a senior officer from the same hospital you mentioned...Baptist. He has told me more than once that he much preferred MDC students over any other school in South Florida.

So....based upon MY experience of one year as a student (like I said...not as formidable as your 11 years)...I have not heard a single complaint like your generalised libel of Miami Dade Students.

Like I said...give me something to work with and I will do my best to make sure the information gets to the right place to END any sort of conduct that you complain about. Until then, sir, your statements are nothing but libel...which is NOT protected speech....just malicious utterances. Statements that do nobody any good and provide no avenue for change or correction.

Thank You.

PS: Unless any definitive or otherwise non-generalized complaints are brought forward...I am done with this conversation.
