Miami Dade College (MDC) Fall 2012 Full-time/Part-time Nursing program

U.S.A. Florida

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to start a thread for people interested in the MDC nursing program for fall 2012. I think if you shared your scores (TEAS V & GPA) and what track your applying to (full-time or part-time), it will give everyone an idea of where they stand.

I will start:

I have a 3.7 GPA and an 81% on the TEAS and looking to apply for the part-time program. I have the option of taking the TEAS 2 more times which I will be doing :)

I've already turned in my apps for all 3 programs (accelerated, generic full time, and generic part time) at MDC. I'm not sure of my overall science GPA as I'm finishing A&P I & II, labs, and Micro next week. I have A's in all as far as I can tell at this point though. I did get an 86.7 on the TEAS, and am not planning to take it again at this point. Now it's just a waiting game. Good luck to us all, and hopefully we find out soon!!!

Hey Canelaw,

Good score. Just curious, which program would be your preferred one?

Good question. Part of me would prefer the accel, just so I could finish faster. However, since I live in Homestead, the drive to med campus would be a nightmare! The other part of me would love the FT Homestead program so I wouldn't be driving that far all the time. The PT program would definitely be my last choice. We'll see what I get in though....

I'm sure that would be a pain to drive from Homestead to the med campus. But good luck in your acceptance and decision!

When you turned in your application, did the advisor give any feedback or info regarding the process or what the average scores have been?

Well I finally got around to applying for all 3 nursing tracks today. The advisor (don't remember his name) who was helping me was answering my questions about the program. I'm not sure how accurate they were but he seemed like he knew what he was talking about. I asked him from what he's seen, what has been the average TEAS scores from the applicants and he said mostly in the 60's and 70's, a few in the 80's and maybe one or two in the 90's. Granted this was just one advisor but he said he noticed a lower trend in scores this semester from last semester. So this is good news for us :yeah:

Also, just in case somebody wasn't sure, there's 50 seats for Accelerated, 150 seats for full time generic, and 50 seats for part time generic, with most of the applicants seeking the full time generic. As a previos poster said in another thread I believe, there has been so far about 600 applicants and will be more as the deadline approaches.

The advisor said that the way MDC determines accepting students is by their competitive score. My competitive score is an 87.7 and he said that anything in the high 70's and above has a good chance of getting in. BUT AGAIN, TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. THIS WAS JUST HIS OBSERVATIONS.

Thank you so so so so MUCH . You have no idea how insane I am going between the teas and the hesi. I'm counting the hour. My hesi is on monday and my teas is on wednesday. I signed up for a prep course in the math, and I have two hour tutoring session tomorrow after my last prep class. I'm so scared, like you won't imagine how afraid I am and yet positive, I'm praying for a 90+ if I remember everything I've been studying. I was at the learning center in medical campus all day yesterday studying and I saw girls leave crying.... that didn't help me nerves at ALL!

But thank you for that little piece of info, best thing I've heard all day!

Good luck on both tests!

Hey all,

I just turned in my app for the Accelerated option at MDC today. Would love to hear from others' about their experience with the Admission process. Mine has been quite hilarious, to say the least.

Off to bed I go!

Ciao!

Hey gwelltravaille,

The only hiccup I had with the admission process was that MDC didn't post my bachelor degree's from FIU, only the classes I took over there. So now I have to call an advisor and have them change it. It's nothing major but it's just one more unnecessary step.

Good luck with everything and if you don't mind, could you share your science GPA and TEAS scores?

And what happen to you during the process?

Sure I'll share.

I got an 80% on the TEAS (when I took it at MDC); I got an 88% when it took it at UNF (but ofcourse this doesn't count). SMH -_- My natural science gpa is a 3.7.

mjl88, if you will private message me, I will tell you my story. In short, it was craziness....Alas, my application is in.

All I would like to say as an encouragement to anyone applying to nursing school is if you're not getting the advisement you need, document it and let the right people know. At least, you will constructive feedback to their admission/advisement department about how they can improve their communication to potential applicants.

I'm hoping I get in...the battle is not over.

For whoever was taking the TEAS on Wednesday....how did it go?
