14 years experience will get you $26-$28/hr for day shift. depending if you have a BSN, are CCRN, any management experience.... etc.

I work for Baptist. I think pay would probably be around $30-32/hr for that amount of experience, $6/hr more for nightshift, actually that would be for a regular floor, I think ICU pays a dollar or two more per hour

wow! that is pretty good! At Miami children's, they pay $26/hr day shift for 14 years experience. THey told us it is pretty much the same everywhere.

but i love that place. I would not leave that hospital for any adult hospital. Pediatrics is my calling!

Baptist has Pediatrics too. But if you are happy where you are at that's a good thing

Sounds good to me. Here in Arizona, that's the rate I get too. I don't know what is the cost of living there in Miami. 2-bed apt here costs about $650/mo. Hope I can get advice from you guys.

I've been a mother of a patient (my sweet baby girl, 8 months at that time) at Baptist children's hospital. and the care we received was great no complaints. I was a nursing student at the time therefore I asked the nurses if they liked it, and most of them said that they liked it there. I asked them if they would leave to another hospital, and they said "no" because they are already used to the machines, and that is what they know.

but what I don't like about there is:

  • no computer charting (my hubby says that they are working on that)
  • no medpoint: medication administration, for safety
  • no IV nurse
  • no phlebotomist
  • techs are not allowed to use scissors!
  • the IV pumps are not so "high tech"

(my baby was getting her IV out at discharge, and the tech was just gonna pull ALL the tape off her little arm... at MCH we can cut carefuly the tape surrounding the board and then use a special oil to make it easier to take off the tape....... I went to the nurses station, asked an LPN for scissors and I took the IV out myself and it was a lot easier than what the tech was going to use).

Yeah I only got a $1,500 bonus to work there for 1 year, and it is not a lot, because I think baptist is somewhere around $7,000 for a year or so.... am I right?

but we have computer charting, "smart IV pumps", medpoint, (never have to mix any meds!), IV nurse, phlebotomy...... that to me, I love it. it can't get any better.

I don't think I could work anywhere else. I LOVE :redpinkhe that place. THat is why I stayed there, I was a care assistant (CNA), then an RN.

I have friends that are working there, and they are new grads too like me. They started last year, making $21.60/hr is that the pay rate for now? in 2008 for new grads??

My husband works there at baptist but he is not a nurse, he is a social worker.

My advice............. DON'T LEAVE ARIZONA TO COME HERE!!!! you will be working just to pay rent and no money in your pocket. you are very lucky you are already there!!!!!

a 2/2 here in miami costs $1,600- $1,800/months in a nice area.

we don't get paid enough, we always have to live off two people income. right now, it's me, my hubby and baby. the three of us live comfortably in a townhouse 3/2 and we pay $1988/month + association fees, pool/recreation house fee......

it's so expensive, I wanted to move, but it is really hard to sell a house now adays.

I know considering " we are Baptist" you'd think we'd have these things. We don't mix meds anymore, although I will if Pharmacy is taking too long!!! I've heard MCH is better. I don't work with children though. I wonder if I know your husband. I know I've seen one male social worker. I work 7p-7a

Million thanks for advice... A lot of friends tell me that too... I must be very careful in my decisions taking consideration about the cost of living.

I love MCH, and we get 4 patients now too just like the peds at baptist. A couple of years ago, I know the nurses used to have 6 patients paired up with a care assistant (I know since I was a care assistant!).

But now things are way better for the RN's, 4 patients, a care assistant, and LPN (most of the time).

A lot of people stay working there, and it is hard getting a full time position there. I know they give priority to the employees there first, and then to the "outsiders".

lol.

I think that I get treated very well there. there are rules obviously just like any other hospital, but it doesn't feel so "corporate".
