MI taking forever processing license

Have you asked for just your nursing license number?

I met with an advisor for an MSN program I'm interested in attending once I graduate with my BSN next December. The problem is that the MSN program starts in January and they'll need my nursing license, which from the sound of things I quite possibly may not have by then. She said that at that time I should try to call and just get my license number.

Apparently, Michigan is one of the few states that actually mails physical cards anymore. Many other states just provide you with your nursing license number. So, maybe this is a possibility? It's worth a try.

I have an outstanding job offer at a Detroit-area hospital that I hope to start the first of the year and desperately need my Michigan RN endorsed license asap. I sent everything in early last month. Upon phoning I was surprised to learn that my application had not even be looked at, although I know that it is complete. I was told that applications/files are processed in the order received. She could not tell me approximately how many applications were ahead of mine, just that nursing comprises the largest number of licensure applications they process.

She told me to use nursys.com instead of paper license verification (I already did) and asked if my hyphenated name was the same on my Indiana license (it is). Fortunately, I learned from a previous post on this thread to include my marriage license just in case.

I agree with an earlier post that: You would indeed think that Michigan would be happy with people trying to move into the State and participate in the local economy. I am seriously thinking about writing the director of Community Health or the governor to see if that streamlines the process. The unit manager is anxious for me to start because of personnel needs, as I am, and I cannot afford to lose this employment opportunity (a move from Med/Surg into a specialty area). Anyone get processed in less than 6-8 weeks?

I bet a FOIA request to the State would reveal a.) how many applications a day are being processed b.) how many persons are processing the applications and c.) why it takes so darn long for them to do this.

There is no reason, especially in this day and age that it would take 8 weeks.

People need to work and they need to be able to get jobs. The State definitely puts a hinderance on this.

They do mail the cards but my license number was online before that went out.

Any updates on this?

I am sending a letter to the governor this morning via fax and hope to see if I can get some sort of a response.

I do not understand what takes so long. Even if there is one person processing information, with everything being electronic, they could easily get through 100 applications a day. There is no reason for this.

I am so glad you did. I am going to do the same thing and would encourage anyone else struggling with license endorsement to do the same thing as soon as possible. There is strength in numbers. I am going to write the Governor and Janet Olszewski, the Director of the Bureau of Health Professions as well.

I encourage all of you that are waiting to notify the governors offices as well as your elected representatives. We are thankfully getting a new administration in the state soon so hopefully that will help things move along more quickly.

Just to give everyone a head's up.

It took writing the governor's office, the attorney general's office, and representatives, but my license was finally posted this last week.

It was explained to me that there are about four people doing the jobs of 10 people right now and that they are working as hard as they can, but they are still behind.

If you're having difficulty though, don't hesitate to write to your elected officials. That's what they are there for.

I received my $7.00 raise on Tuesday. :)

No matter what you are hearing, there are no jobs in MI, not even decent nursing jobs. I am finding that it is not the license but who you know in the industry that will get you the job. Good luck finding a job in MI.

I think I will be waiting the whole 8 weeks before I get my MI license, They received all of my information on Oct 19 and as of today they still have not reviewed my application. This is so disheartening!!!!!!!! :cry:

I just called MBON and the told me I have another 3- 3-1/2 weeks before they process my application....I clearly do not understand the issue. This is holding me up from employment....Im so depressed right now...smh
