I applied to MGH as a new graduate with a lot of critical experience and all my certs (like ACLS, CPR, PALS ) done and I was told that without a BSN I am not welcome to work there. I already have a BSN in a medical filed but that is not good enough. I think that MGH is a little high on their horse for a hospital that has ER overcrowding and in some parts a horrible building structure.

According to their web site the BSN is preferred but not required. Having said that I don't think I'd want to work where I was told I was not welcomed. ANd what other field awards a BSN? the N is for nursing.

you know, i really take issue with this. yrs ago i was offered a job at mgh. the reason i refused was i found their attitude a little bit too elitist....and their pay wasn't up to par. but their attitude is "hey, you should be happy we hired you". well no thank you.
trust me, there's another facility that will truly appreciate your abilities and talents. much luck to you.

MGH would like have BSN as the minimum req. but the reality is, if you are a qualified RN, they will take you. However, you will have better chances applying to a general medicine floor (not at all a scarifice, because general medicine at MGH is critical care at a local hospital). Find out who the RN manager is on the floor you want because HR is terrible. Good luck and don't get discouraged-

MGH will hire RNs with an associate's degree if they are enrolled in a BSN program at the time of hire.
They are a bit elitist, but they've earned that reputation, wouldn't you say?

Its all because of Boston General Hospital and Dr. Craig and Dr. Westphall always bashing the Place. We all know St. Elsewhere was referring to MGH when they talked about Boston General

This is a fairly new "requirement" that a lot of the Boston hospitals have, effective 1/1/07. Those already working there with an ADN are not in any way affected. I was told by a nurse recruiter there and at BWH that had I already been employed at there facility as a PCA or in any other capacity, then it would be possible to sidestep this. I was told by MGH to reapply after I got a years experience and enrolled in a BSN program. Same thing from the Brigham. Bummer. I have always wanted to work at BWH...so it looks like I'm going back to school...AGAIN!
It doesn't make much sense to me, but with the number of applicants they get each year, they have to narrow it down somehow. I wonder if it's going to come back to bite them in the long run, though.
I was hired last fall Ive only been an RN for 2yrs.

I've been working at MGH for only a few weeks, and I love it! The things I've seen and learned are simply amazing. I agree with an earlier poster and say that they have earned that reputation!
