Hey!
Has anyone else applied to this program?! Just got an email that my application was being processed!!
Oh, and on a side note: I was born and raised in San Diego (attending undergrad here as well) and I 100% recommend it! Esmeralda was right about the food here being ridiculous. :)
Hi blessingoverflow! I graduated from UC San Diego just last year! I hope you're enjoying SD! Definitely somewhere I can see myself settling back into in my future. That's great you're looking into programs now! I wouldn't worry too much about your GPA, just keep trying to do your best as you are still an undergrad. UCSD kicked my butt, so my GPA graduating from there was pretty low as well. I don't believe MGH has a minimum GPA, but they do require a C or better in prerequisite work. I suggest doing these at a community college to save money! And they're typically easier in my opinion! MGH although is not highly ranked on the list of best nursing schools, I have read plenty of great things from past posts about the program. The idea of living on the east coast also seems really appealing for me as I was born and raised in CA. From the website, MGH also seems to have plenty of clinical sites which shows a lot of great connection to the community they serve. Good luck with undergrad! Stay involved! It's never too early to ask for letter of recs if you've got some people in mind.
Also, to all those currently applying... I hope we hear early next week!! I start vacation tomorrow and I feel like I will continue to be anxious until I hear back with some good news!! MGH's direct entry program seems to have a pretty decent acceptance rate (around 37-40% from what I've read, correct me if I'm wrong!), so that gives us some pretty good chances.
Hi all!
I applied to MGH IHP for FNP track. Anxiously awaiting an answer! I am currently finishing up my undergrad at a large public university in California, so I'm excited for the possibility of living in Boston! What other programs did everyone apply to? I applied to Regis College, Northeastern, and Seattle U.
No way! I'm at UCSD right now!! Graduating in June and then finishing up pre-reqs over the next year at cc. Although I've heard that it's super hard to get the classes we need because they give priority to those with less units.. Is that true?
So far at UCSD I've taken human phys I, microbio lab, nutrition, intro to psych, intro to sociology, and currently enrolled in developmental psych and stats. Signing up for human phys II next quarter although I plan on doing A&P I and II at cc next year. Other than A&P all I have left is a microbio lecture course, since the microbio lab at UCSD only counts as a lab and not a regular lecture class. Only three classes left to take at cc and I'm gonna be so bummed if I can't get them in time and have to stay yet another year there. Basically if I don't get A&P I in the fall (and then A&P II in the spring) then I'll be screwed.
I'm also planning on taking bacteriology next quarter just for the hell of it because I love the professor who's teaching it. My friend who's going to optometry school says the schools accept bacteriology in the place of microbio, but I've never heard that from nursing schools or students.
I'm most definitely ready to experience living in a new city. I love SD but I need something new in my life. :)
Hi all!
So anxious to hear, I really hope we get an answer this week! Good luck to everyone. I applied to the FNP specialty. Looking through these threads I have seen great things written about the MGH program, which makes me so thankful that I applied! I have applied to MGH and Marquette- according to the program coordinator at Marquette, likely won't hear from them until the first week of March even though the deadline was Dec. 15th :/
Would really just love some news, good or bad, so I can plan for the months ahead.
Hey All - first of all, good luck to all! I, too, have applied for Fall 2016 - psychiatry focus - and await the news. I can offer some insight as I have applied before and have been accepted in the past (2009 - FNP); I wasn't able attend due to family matters. I have several friends who have attended and know the program and school well.
For those of you worried about your GPA or scores; when i applied I had just left undergrad with a BA in Linguistics. My GPA was good but I had zero science classes - even when I applied I hadn't a single one completed! I had been an EMT, but that was as far as my exposure to the medical world had gone. From what I know of the program they deeply value the quality of the person's extracurricular life. They are not just looking at grades and GPAs, MGHIHP is looking at the whole picture. They want dynamic people, caring people ... Many of those I knew who attended had good grades and GREs and many didn't!
Of course, this is just what I have seen and experienced. Just don't forget that you are way more than your scores and that MGHIHP knows this!
Best of luck to you all !

Hey guys!
First of all, best of luck to everyone!! I've read threads for several schools for different years and as I work my way from the first page to the last page I start to feel the anxiety build just wondering if these people got in!
I'll be applying to direct entry programs in the fall, for a summer/fall 2017 start. I've found so much great advice reading these threads. Do any of you have anything you'd be willing to share with me?
I'm a bit concerned since my GPA is pretty damn low, but I'm not letting that stop me from applying. (Also, I can't seem to find a minimum GPA requirement for MGH. Is it a 3.0 or is MGH like Columbia in that it doesn't have a minimum GPA requirement?)
Any and every piece of advice and encouragement is appreciated. :)
