MGH accelerated BSN 2010

Published

Anyone gotten an acceptance letter yet? If not when do you think the earliest that we'll hear?

Anyone trying to decide between MGH accelerated and another program? I have heard from ARNP and DNP students that MGH is great, but I don't know any Accelerated BSN students.

Any current or past MGH accelerated student around to comment on quality of the program? Would you choose this program again?

I just started working with a young woman who is finishing the acc. BSN at MGH this August. She said that she has really liked it, but its a lot of work- compared it to a marathon... as in excited about approaching the end but it has been a great experience.

I was accepted into the program. I have a 3.3 cumulative gpa and have a BA in Biology.... I have only heard great things about the program... I'm excited to be starting soon.

Hi everyone! congrats to those of you who have been accepted! I am in the current ABSN class at MGH and so far i have loved it! It is a lot of work and organization is key!!! As far as people who have been waitlisted--they did accept quite a few off the waitlist, we had someone who started the program who had literally found out the day before classes started that she got in! Hopefully they will have that system worked out a little better this year since we were the first class of 90 (down to about 84 i think...) I think with the economy some people who were accepted weren't able to get loans and therefore had to drop out last minute, which is why some people on the wait list found out so late. Anywho, bet of luck to those of you who are still waiting to hear! It's an unbelievable journey and i can't believe its almost over for me!!

Hi Rookie12! Thank you so much for coming forward to talk about your experience in the ABSN program at MGH. I have recently sent my deposit to the program and I am extremely excited!! I am trying to figure out my living and traveling arrangements. I was wondering if you could share a little about what your schedule has been like while in the program?

The schedule is a little hectic in the beginning of the semester. The first three weeks of the summer semester are what they call "frontloading", when they basically teach you all the basics you need to know before you can start clinical. During the first three weeks you will have class and lab monday-thrusday pretty much 9-5. And a saturday or two of classes. After that the schedule becomes more regular. You'll have one day a week of med-surg clinical (it was either tues or wens. for us from about 6:30-3) class one day a week (9-12monday for us) lab one day a week (9-1 ont he day you don't have clinical, either tues or wens) and a psych clinical (ours was on thursdays, time can vary depending on where you are. most are days but there are a few afternoon/evening placements as well). There is also classes one sat. a month. there is definitely a need to be flexible as they would occasionally add in an afternoon lecture here and there.

hope this gives you little bit of insight into the schedule! i remember a year ago when i was in your shoes just dying for any information i could get so i'm happy to answer more questions!

Thanks Rookie! I was wondering at what point before starting the program did you have your finances all squared away?

as scary as it sounds, i think it was a week or two before classes started, because of when financial aid certifies the loans. As long as your private loans are pre approved and within the limit the school allows then there should be no problem, and you can start that process earlier. Make sure to attend one of the financial aid sessions they offer and take good notes!

thanks rookie, i wish everyone that are already in the program can post their input it helps alot

Question to all those accepted, Did anyone receive info indicating wether or not you received a Merit Scholarship ?.... the website says that new students are notified of scholarship awards in their letter of acceptance. I'm just wondering if this has changed or not. Thanx :)

Christina86, yes they do still notify recipients of the merit scholarship in the acceptance letter. The office of financial aid also calls all recipients. Hope this helps! Congrats on your acceptance! Have you decided to deposit?
