MGH Accelerated BSN Summer 2016

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hi everyone - I'm wondering if anyone else applied for MGH's Accelerated BSN program for Summer 2016? I submitted my application on the deadline (November 2nd). I've searched through some MGH threads on here but I haven't come across any discussing the Summer start!

Hey I submitted my application a couple of weeks ago. Do you know when we should expect to hear back?

Hey, I also put in my application for summer of 16. I put it in during the last week of October. Im not sure what my chances are but my fingers are crossed.

I heard that its about 8 weeks so we should hear something by the end of the year.

Reading through past threads, I believe that it takes much longer to hear back from MGH compared to other programs in the area (NU and UMass.) My application status JUST changed to reflect that the application is "Complete for Review"

Thank you mrp1004, my application is still in the same status from the time I submitted it on Oct 28th. At least I know what changes to look for on the application now.

What have you heard about the application and approval process?

I wasn't able to get to an information session for MGH, so I'm not sure what they say for a waiting time. Did they tell you 8 weeks?

Looking through the threads from last year, the 8 week turnaround seems about right. It looks like applications for Spring 2016 were due July 1, and people heard back in mid September. I would assume that Summer applicants would hear sooner because there are probably less applicants?

I wasn't able to get to an information session either so I went down to the school and dropped off my transcripts in person. I tried to talk to someone but there weren't any advisors available, I got some general answers from the receptionist but nothing concrete. I'm hoping that there are less applicants in the summer so that I have a better chance at an approval. Are you feeling confident about your application?

I hesitate to say that I'm confident. This is the second time I've applied to this program- I applied two years ago and was wait-listed. The first time around, I had VERY little experience in healthcare (limited to some time spent volunteering in some health clinics abroad). I now have a MA degree in public health and some health-centered work experience. My undergrad and prerequisite GPA will obviously be the same, and they're decent (3.4 undergrad GPA and about the same for pre-reqs.) My graduate GPA is much higher but I know that they're looking at first degrees when comparing applicants. All of that being said- I felt confident two years ago when I applied to many of these programs, and was totally crushed not to get in. I won't get my hopes up this time around, but I think I'm stronger professionally and personally than I was the first time I applied. How are you feeling?

What other programs are you applying to? I've also applied to Northeastern, and I'll be applying to UMass Boston after taking the TEAS (tomorrow morning! eek!)

Wow, that sounds like you were and still are a good applicant. This is the first application I put in and I am nervous because Im strong in every area except the GPA, My undergrad GPA is about a 2.8 and my prerequisite is about 3.2. However I have worked in a medical field for about 13 years including military and civilian work, and have won employee of the year running a treatment facility. So honestly I don't know what to expect but I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will look at the bigger picture.

The programs I can apply to are limited because of the GPA, Northeastern said they won't consider my application under a 3.0... I am applying to UMASS Amherst, and if I take another chemistry I can apply to MCHPS and ST Josephs in CT. I'm hoping to find out soon what happens because I need to know wether or not I have to take another prerequisite in the spring to apply to other schools.

Hey guys I got an email today saying that my application has been processed and ready for review. Did anyone else get a similar email?
