Merritt College ADN 2011

Published

Hello All,

I was accepted to Merritt College's ADN program starting Fall/11 and wanted to know who else may be attending. Im really nervous about their program because of all the bad reviews. Is it just a matter of unhappy people are more likely to complain and there are people out there who are happy with the program? If anyone in the program has any advice id surely appreciate it. Thanks!

just print double sided. it's less than 100 pages and all black ink so it's only 2-3 dollars to print. In the end though, I don't think they will fail you for not having the handbook but I would be sure to print out and sign the contract.

Thank you Chris for the advise that's what i did I printed the signature pages only. Did anyone buy the stethoscope, scissors, and penlight?

I've seen stethoscope range from $20 all up to $250 what is the difference?

how about the pharmacology and the surgical textbooks are we using these this semester or the next?

Thank you for your support,

I have a $300 stethoscope I bought because I am hard of hearing; it has a battery operated amplifier. Other expensive stethoscope options are cardiac stethoscopes and pediatric stethoscopes. Both are great choices for specialty purposes. The normal all-purpose everyday scope should not run more than $100. Littmann has a good reputation, they made my nice electronic scope and the lightweight traditional style I had before that. If you want a truly experienced opinion though try searching the terms "stethoscope recommend" in the search box at the top of the page.

About the pharmacology textbook, I remember them clearly in the orientation saying that this text will be used along side the fundamentals text, starting the first semester. I think that the surgical text will be used starting second semester. I get all of them anyways.

Typically Med-surg starts the same week as clinicals. So that would be week 10. I'm betting each week we will be studying a different body system. Our lab II time (assessment) will most likely complement the theory for that week (ie. learning skin assessment and skin disorders in the same week) And if they are available we will most likely be assigned to patients with conditions of the same system.

As far as pharm, handbook says we take pharm in the second semester. However if you are giving meds in clinicals you will be responsible for knowing the purpose, dosage and side effects of what your giving.

Guys, does anybody remember what he told about the drug calculation exam? it seems to me he said that it would include 15 chapters. But the book has 17.

Mine only has 16...

Really? But I bought the recommended one. Anyway,16-17 chapters are advanced calculation. But it seemes to me he told just about 15. maybe we don't need advanced calculation for exam

I just checked it out.... turns out I had the 7th edition. Handout calls for the 8th edition so my chapters are different. That means I probably didn't need to read the one on calculating BSA :uhoh3:.

Oh well. I guess I am a little extra ready then...

Are u gonna take an exam?

of course. No reason to waste 4 hours a week in a math class. I do wonder tho if it will still show up on my schedule for financial aid.

I dont think so. U will be OK. I don't know, I supposed to be ready, but suddenly found some quises on line.Hmmm:confused: For example:A Nitroglycerin drip is ordered for your patient to control his chest pain. The concentration is 100 mg in 250 cc D5W. The order is to begin the infusion at 20 mcg/min. What is the rate you would begin the infusion on the infusion pump? Cant make it

Everything is mixed in my head
