Hello, everyone:
I am hoping someone can help me - I just received notification from Merritt College (NOT Samuel Merritt) that I "have been selected as an alternate for admission". When I called to find out exactly what this means, they were not clear. I asked what number I was on the lottery list so that I could get an idea as to how likely it would be that I could get in (e.g. 1 on the alternate list vs. 10) - they said they didn't use numbers.
When I asked how they decided which alternate would get in if a spot opened up, they could not answer at all.
Does anyone know how this works? Was anyone an alternate to Merritt who did or didn't get in?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated - I've already been rejected from one school, am anxiously waiting to hear back from two, and just got this "alternate" letter, so am kindly teetering on the verge of insanity!!!
Hi Eli. What did you think about the orientation? Did anyone else attend it? I have to say that everything said on this forum about the program seems to be true. It's gonna be hard and we're gonna have to be VERY proactive. I understand that the program is not supposed to be easy, but having some support from the staff would be helpful. Doesn't seem like it's going to be there though.
I don't believe what anybody else says. They will support us but that was only orientation, they have to take a hard line. To many people take advantage and ask pretty dumb questions! I mean, at orientation people were asking the same question repeatedly when it was already answered, and they were right that most of the questions were answered in the paperwork they provided us. It's going to be boot camp, and I feel that what they told us wouldn't be any different in any other program, just at the other one's it'll be more sugar coated and expressed in a softer, kinder way. Being a nurse is all about being overly attentive and proactive, I'm used to it at the hospital I work at, and those who aren't don't climb the ladder or get good reviews. Maybe I'm just use to educators being that way from the variety of schools I've been to, I think it'll be fine. Unless you have another school, lets do it. Get a study group going, we'll do fine. email me sometime
actually I wanted to ask if you are doing the titers test somewhere for free or cheap? I'm trying to look around, haven't found anything yet. you can email me at [email protected]
i don't know how anyone could conclude just from the orientation that the staff WILL NOT be supportive. we only were with them the staff for 4 hours!!!! what kind of support would you have liked to be given at orientation????
everybody's learning expeireice is different and i will only make a judgement after the first semester. right now we are just hearing other peoples perspectives which may turn out to be very different. nursing is a hands on job, and one needs to motivated, have initiative and not expect to be spoon fed.
my 2 cents...
Any of u guys were able to enroll for the nursing curriculum for fall because ms young said ms Williams has sent the list to the admissions already. So we are eligible to enroll for the classes. But i can't seem to add classes. I went to admissions office to fix this but they said I can't enroll yet coz it is still summer. I'm getting to different information or am I missing something here? Lol
can any of u help me. Thank you :)
i wasn't able to add classes but was told by admissions that there's a matriculation hold, well for me atleast since i'm a new student at merritt. All i need to do is meet with the cousnelor and they remove the hold, it may be too early to enroll for fall, not sure, ask them if you have an appointment. I wouldn't worry, if you're a selectee for Fall you will be able to add the nursing class no matter when, there's enough space for everyone.
I have a hold too. They told me to go to a counselor, as well. But, that counselor told me to go to the admissions office for that. Then, at the admissions, they told me it is still summer. You cannot enroll and the list still not there even though ms. young said they did send it. I don't know. Confusing. But yea I thought since i am a selectee, ill worry about it after aug 2.
But thank you
Let me know when you get your hold removed.
:)

Anyone here going to be commuting from SF? I was hoping to get into CCSF cause I didn't want to have to pay toll everyday. But if others are willing to carpool, that'll save a bunch of money. Hoping the program is not as bad as some people say. At the very least, I think we'll have to be self-motivated and hopefully find good people to study with. Good luck to you all.
