Mercy College-Toledo 2014-2015

Published

I am posting this because it seems like nothing has been posted about Mercy since 2009-2011. I live in Michigan, but have been looking into the ADN program (nights/weekends) at Mercy. I work full-time and would like to remain employed while in nursing school. I am looking for anyone who has recently completed the program, what it was like, if you would recommend it, and if anyone is looking to apply to the 2015 school year (specifically anyone from Michigan). Thank you for your help and responses!

I have, perhaps, a lame/stupid question for current or former students. Acceptance letters. Does Mercy College go with large envelopes for acceptance and small for rejections, or all acceptance and rejection letters in a small envelop?

I currently applied to the nursing program at Mercy, does anyone know what there cut off GPA is? and how many people they accept?

I think GPA cut off is 2.7 (either from high school or all colleges combined), but I got in with less than that (with a personal statement with my application - my poor grades where from about a decade ago and I had a very high GPA from an unaccredited school that didn't count but was taken into consideration with my statement). I think number of people they accept depends on the campus (not sure which one you're referring to). I don't know how many the Toledo programs accept, but I believe the Youngstown campus admits about 96. At least they did for the 2017 class. I don't know if that'll change for the next.

Well I thought I would resurrect this thread as I am a new student at Mercy. Just completed the spring semester and have all my pre-reqs done. I started in school at UT in 2013 and decided last year to switch to nursing. I applied and was accepted to the nursing program this summer and will start in the fall towards my Associates. I am super excited as Mercy is such a wonderful school and the professors are wonderful.

Congratulations!

Just finished my first semester of nursing 110 at Mercy so I thought I would drop in and say how it went. First off, even though I prepared myself mentally for how hard it would be, I really had no idea. I am generally an "A" student and I really struggled. We had 4 exams and my grades were 78%, 83%, 87%, 83%. That all averaged out to the must have 80% in the class to pass but I was scared after that first test. I spoke to others in my class who had returned after failing the previous fall and they had said they missed passing by just a point or two. Now some would say that is unfair, but I see it as a standard. It got me on the ball. I thought I had studied hard for the first test but I realized I was going to have to seriously step up my game if I was going to pass this. So while I thought that studying for a day or two before a test was sufficient, I quickly learned that studying must ALWAYS be happening.

I started making study sheets after every class and used my CHEGG flashcard app on my phone for vocabulary words and math conversions I needed to memorize. I would study at any opportunity. I made calendars with planned study times and I studied nclex style questions as well.

Sleep, exercise and good food are so important and the times I skipped out on them were the times I did the worst. Avoid stress in your life as well.

For my first semester, I chose not to work outside of school as I didn't think I could handle it and I do believe that is accurate as I had so much to learn about how to do well in nursing school. I did get a job a few weeks ago and I believe with all I learned I am now able to handle a part-time job in addition to going to school. I will also add I am an older single student and I do have several kids. My youngest is 10.

Overall, I absolutely LOVE Mercy. It has been an incredible blessing and a fantastic opportunity to grow as a person. Never before have I been so challenged in my life. I pray that I will be able to continue to do well and pass each semester here on out. If all goes as planned, I should graduate in May 2018. At that point, I will hopefully pass the NCLEX, get a job and then apply to Ohio University to do my RN-BSN completion online.
