Mercer 2012

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hi! I would like to start a new thread for students that are starting nursing school this fall at GA Baptist. Would love to hear any tips from seniors and past graduates! I cannot wait to start this fall!!

What other school have you applied to?

I also applied to Georgia State and Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC ( I have a ton of family in this area and they also have a great nursing school).

I'll most likely be there on March 15th. Do you guys know how the schedule look like? I have a baby and need to figure out how I'm gonna do (day care, nanny..). The day care that I'm looking at only opens at 8am so I'm afraid that if we need to be somewhere (either at campus or hospital) at 7am I'll have to figure something else out.

Hi! I would like to go to the event! Did the admissions office send you the info or is it on the website?

I will be there! :)

I didn't end up getting to go, I had to work :(

Anyone willing to give a wrap-up of what they talked about?

Hey guys I'll be going to mercer too. I'm commuting from suwanee. I'm definitely nervous but mainly about getting financial aid. Does anyone have any good aid information? I've checked mercers site and have been googling but *phew is it expensive! I got into Gwinnett tech and am waiting to see if I get into gsu. Haven't had the best experience there so I'll most likely be going here! :) look forward to meeting you guys!!

This thread is so dead!

Did any of you guys hear back from GBCON yet for fall 2012 ??

If I may ask what are your guys stats?

Thanks!

Congrats to those who have been accepted and are definitely going to GBCN of Mercer this fall!! I'm a current student (just finished my first year, now a senior!) so I will try to answer a few questions for yall. I know financial aid seems like the most stressful part right now. It was for me, as well, when I was in yall's position. The max amount we got from financial aid through FAFSA was $12,500. As you probably realize, that only pays for one semester. I bank with Wells Fargo and got a very large loan through them. It's called the MedCap loan. You can borrow up to 75,000 and most of the time, you do not need a co-signer. Also, their interest rates are very reasonable. I am doing the same plan to pay for this year as well.

I know it seems awful to be in so much debt, but I promise you, Mercer is worth it! It is an amazing school and I cannot imagine being anywhere else. Here, the professors really care about how you do. I have gotten to know many of them on personal levels and it is so comforting always knowing I have them by my side.

I will be at both new student orientations, along with other current students. Just a warning, after orientation you are going to feel even more overwhelmed. It is a very hectic day and afterwards you may feel like you just received information overload! That's a completely normal feeling. We all felt it last year too! Just remember to ask lots of questions! And please come talk to us; the senior class is SO excited to meet our incoming juniors! See yall there! If yall have any more questions, feel free to post on here and I will try my best to check this forum regularly, or personal message me.

Is any of the students in senior year willing to sell textbooks for cheaper price :)?

Unfortunately, we keep a majority of our books each semester for future reference. Sorry! I probably won't sell any textbooks until after I pass the NCLEX next summer.

I know your first semester books cost a total of around $1,000. But I promise that is the worst semester. Second semester was only a fraction of that. Then, I know I have a required text for my third semester that I have been using since my first semester. It gets better, promise!
