MEPN 2015

Published

Thought I would get this started...

Who is applying for UCSF MEPN Program currently?

I hope so. I've had so much anxiety the last couple of nights I couldn't sleep well...

I got an invitation as well! My interview is on January 23d but I will be out of the country :(. I hope I can change it to the 30th! Does anyone know if this is possible? Good luck to those invite and for those who weren't I've heard you have a better chance if you apply for the following year!

Anyone have any information about names of interviewers in the past or present? Any current MEPN students (any year) interested in talking on the phone this week for a few minutes so I can pick your brain?

We are all in the midst of finals. You might have better luck the week of the 15th.

I applied for the FNP specialty and still hasn't recieved any emails (I also did not recieve an "application under review" email at the beginning). Are the acceptance emails sent out before the rejection ones? Has anyone been accepted after Thursday?

Same boat :sniff: other years seem to have received acceptance even a week after everyone else....

Just as an update all those anxiously waiting...they are deciding as they go, so it could be as much as 2 weeks before all of us are informed....so unfortunately it could be a little bit longer, BUT this could still be good news...hang in there everyone!

Good Luck on your finals and have a happy holiday. And, I would love to speak with any MEPNs after finals (or in January after the holiday season). :)

Does anyone have an idea about the typical number of interview schedule and those accepted into the program? Also, the number of applicants? I've heard the number of applicants has decreased because they don't offer a BSN.

The number of applicants may have decreased due to a recent 40% increase in tuition costs ("UCSF student on youtube"). UCSF is ranked number 1 in the nation for the program I am applying for. The hospital has reached magnet status ("UCSF website"). Some hospitals at magnet status only hire RNs that hold BSNs. A MSN trumps a BSN. Experience trumps a recent graduate with a degree including a MSN. Online source: having an RN Certification (after one year) in lieu of a BSN may change outcome of working as an RN at a magnet status hospital during second and third year of the MEPN program (if you plan to work). UCSF also offers many volunteer opportunities. A majority of volunteer areas are in regions of need. So, upon graduation at the NUMBER ONE school in the entire nation with a MSN, if you are applying for FNP, then proceed by networking and secure a job. Next question (selectivity): I am in the understanding that they offer few interviews beyond the quantity they anticipate to accept to join their school. Additionally, allnurses.com "the online" says 50% are accepted after interviewing. I am currently trying to coordinate so I can interview... will be an important couple of weeks for me. I have to request to reschedule my interview, as well.

Anyone who is going, what do you plan to see outside of the interview?

I'm from sf and actually work at Ucsf right now so if anyone wants to be shown around a bit while they're in town for the interview i'd be happy to!
