MEPN 2015
Congrats to those who heard good news and I'm really sorry for those who did not. It is even more frustrating that they made us wait until today to hear back (XX made it seem like we would hear last Friday so these extra few days have been torture). I am really happy to have been accepted into the PNP program. Is anyone else on the thread doing peds? I am curious how many of the 2015 cohort is entering for pediatrics. Looking forward to meeting you all and to those of you who heard disappointing news, don't give up! I have heard countless stories of people reapplying and getting in the second time around.

Elephant and Easy, can you tell me why you're opting into the NP (3-year track) vs getting a BSN and then pursuing a masters after getting some work experience? I would like to hear other thoughts on making such a big financial decision vs trying to work and pay for school. UCSF's program sounds fantastic and I hope to be accepted but, at this point, I'm not convinced we'll be getting the most bang for our buck… Do either of you have an idea how long it will take to repay such a hefty loan? I have also heard there loan-forgiveness programs which place you in a federally qualified health clinic and if you commit to working a few years they forgive your debt but I'm not sure how common those jobs are. For anyone already in the program, I'd love to get your thoughts as well.

Also, Tenta, I was able to change my interview date but had to call the school several times to confirm. The admissions office said the earlier the better so if you haven't heard back via email, I would call them.

Thanks for the response. I'd heard about the tuition increase and that UCSF has become a "magnet" hospital, both of which make the school less appealing. Do you know of other schools that are a better fit for those hoping to work after the first year. I've heard regardless of if you have a BSN or RN you are less likely to be hired without any experience. I have also heard the name of UCSF is very helpful when looking for jobs. A friend of mine finished the FNP master's (also had done the MEPN) and said 100% of her class got jobs after graduation! Obviously the market could change in 3-4 years but that is good to know. Anyway, I'd love others thoughts on the program compared to others and feasible ways to take on the cost without going into too much debt. This may be thinking ahead too much seeing as I have not been accepted into the program but it would be helpful to know.

Does anyone have an idea about the typical number of interview schedule and those accepted into the program? Also, the number of applicants? I've heard the number of applicants has decreased because they don't offer a BSN.

I got an invitation as well! My interview is on January 23d but I will be out of the country . I hope I can change it to the 30th! Does anyone know if this is possible? Good luck to those invite and for those who weren't I've heard you have a better chance if you apply for the following year!

MEPN 2015
Hi everyone! I'm excited to see that this thread exists though I wish I'd found it earlier during the grueling application process. I am also applying to the PNP track and have spent years working full-time while completing the prereqs. I decided not to apply to any schools outside of the Bay Area so I am only applying to UCSF and Sammuel Merrit (UCSF is my top choice). I don't currently have any questions but I'm excited to be part of a larger network of applicants who are, like me, waiting with fingers crossed. Best of luck to all of you and I look forward to further discussion.
