I have Menieres disease, and after 9 years with no symptoms I believe it is returning. I now have tinnitus, and feeling of fullness in my ear. Any others who have this? I can't believe I have been symptom free for this long and now its returning! Each day I worry that an attack will happen. Believe me...their not pleasant to go through. Would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions of ways to ward off an attack. Thanks. :)

I was recently diagnosed with Tinnitus . . . so frustrating. Must be all those years of listening to loud music. Now I just cringe when I hear loud noises . . .like my toddler who is crying loudly now. He needs to nurse and go night night. :D

I also get dizzy sometimes . ..

Its heck getting old sometimes.

I also have the same condition. I wish I could give you some suggestions. Usually I End up in bed at least every three months not being able to stand up or get out of bed for two or three days. Nauseous as anything.

Iwill be very interested in responses to your post also. Meclezine does not work and I think all the valium des is help me sleep through it. (It is supposed to help the spasms in the inner ear or something of the sort.) They say it works for most people.

I dont have a clue on how to ward off an attack. Let me know.

I had labrynthitis twice now. It is a scary and unpleasant experience, to say the least. I used a drug called SERC, which made an amazing difference quite quickly...

I don't have Meneire's, but am hearing impaired with mild dizziness and constant tinnitus. There are some on-line groups where you might be able to "talk" with other people who have Meniere's and get some practical suggestions.

I belong to the SayWhatClub, which is for people with all types of hearing loss. Many of those members also subscribe to online clubs and/or bulletin boards that are specific to a particular type of hearing loss and/or disease. You might try doing a web search to find those groups.

There is a website called something like "Exceptional Nurse" (exceptionalnurse.com ?) that is relatively new. It's specifically for nurses that have any kinds of handicaps, etc. Some of you might want to check it out. I didn't find it very helpful for me, but I think it might develop into an important site someday for nurses with disabilities to congregate. As a profession, nursing is not very tolerant of its members that need accommodations -- but with the aging population of nurses and the nursing shortage in general, there may some movement in that area within the next decade.

Take care,

I don't know if this will be of any help to you or not, but try going to this site:

http://www.healthboards.com

and click on the link for hearing disorders. I find the message boards on that site to be pretty informative, and it's nice to "talk" with others in the same boat as yourself. If nothing else, you might be able to at least compare notes with people who have similar problems and see if they have any solutions that you haven't tried.

Good luck!

I did a PowerPoint presentation for my Health Assessment class based on an article about vertigo last fall. You can find the article at:

http://www.nursingcenter.com/library/JournalArticle.asp?Article_ID=281187

It mentions a low salt diet and diuretics for Menieres. I don't know if that helps you, but I thought it was a good article. Good luck in your search.

Shawn

I was told that reduced salt diets could make a difference. Have you found that to be true?
