Just making a thread for Memorial Hermann's Graduate Nurse Residency program for Spring 2018, so we can keep each other updated on our process. Started filling out my application today! Super excited and totally nervous already :/
neuroRN,First of all congratulations! I interviewed for the neuro ICU and was told I didn't get the job. Could you possibly give me tips/background? I was slightly stunned but not completely surprised when I didn't get the job since MH only hired two people.
Hey, thank you! I'm sorry to hear that, yes absolutely. I'm in an accelerated program right now and I have a prior Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, GPA 3.95, my transition to practice/role transition is in the neuro ICU right now. Let me know if I'm missing anything else you're looking for. When they called today, they really emphasized how they paid a lot of attention to non-verbal cues and composure during the interview and they looked for answers with intention. They also said they really looked for your passion for the unit to shine through in the interview. In terms of the skills test upstairs, they said they were surprised by how many applicants stumbled on how to do the skills off the top of their head and it shows who really picked up skills in school that they consider crucial for the unit and who just kind of goes through the motions. Based on the phone call, I think they were paying attention to confidence and what they thought would make a good critical care nurse in terms of composure and some skills. I hope that helps!

Yeah it's weird. They only did one interview with so many candidates. I don't see how they can pick that easily on who they want.
