Yes, I'm an animal lover too and it was hard for me the first few days, we did cats. As my teacher pretty much said you either do it or you don't pass. It sounds kind of harsh, but it is where you learn the most.
I'd say wait. In my opinion you won't even need some of the ones. I bought my Med-Surg book right way, but held off on others until necessary. I still wish I wouldn't have bought some, probalby 50% of my books I never use.
