  1. Ryerson Collaborative

The placement office at Ryerson can be a little frustrating at times only because they have so many students to place. They do ask you where you would like to see yourself in 5 years so that they get an idea as to what area of nursing you are interes...
  2. Ryerson Collaborative

Hi Utopia. I went to Ryerson, in fact I just graduated from there. I am not familiar with OUIT but I can say that Ryerson does have a very good nursing program. I attended Ryerson from beginning to end so I cannot speak about the other Schools. Howe...
  3. Nursing jobs in Ontario

Take a look at the Nurses 4 Ontario website. I think they are having a career fair at Ryerson University. This is how I was able to get job offers. Good luck!
  4. Toronto Schools - Where should I go?

Hi There. I went to Ryerson and I must say its a really good school with very supportive staff. I started and ended at Ryerson so I cannot comment on George Brown or Centennial. Although I do know some students who went there and noticed BIG differen...
  5. Elitist Attitude?

I was talking with a friend of mine the other day (she's a nurse as well) and she mentioned the idea that neonatal nurses tend to have an elitist attitude more so than floor nurses. What do you think about this? Considering I just began working as a...
  6. How to Ace the Interview as a New Grad

Hi Steph, I was recently in your situation and the best advice I can give you is to be yourself, do your research when it comes to the hospital and the unit and let the nurse manager see how enthusiastic, excited and dedicated you are. I recently spo...
  7. Toronto NICU Nurses

Does anyone out there work at any NICU in the Toronto area? I'm trying to weight the pros and cons of Mount Sinai's NICU versus Sick Kids and I would love to speak with anyone who works or has worked in this unit at any of the two hospitals? I have a...
  8. Will I ever see the light of day?

Wow! Here in Canada (Ontario) there are no designated "days" or "night" staff. All staff, regardless of how long you have worked on the unit, work all shifts. But if you want to work all nights you can have that arranged in most hospitals.
  9. Where to go...

I say give it time. Maybe after you have worked there for a while you might feel you need a change. You may enjoy being a bedside nurse for a while or you may want to move on to another area. My advice is to wait and see how it all unfolds. Hope this...
  10. Sleeping

Just out of curiosity, how many of you, when on nights, sleep on your break? Is it part of your unit culture to take turns sleeping for 2 or 3 hours? The reason why I ask is because I know that it is typical of many units for the staff to sleep. How...
  11. What's the Difference?

Wow... SteveRN21..what level is your NICU?
  12. What's the Difference?

This might be a dumb question but what are you doing for 8-12 hours that could keep you busy with one patient? How ciritical is critical? Are you literally standing over the bed-side assessing the infant every 10 minutes? I've always wondered about t...
  13. What's the Difference?

Hi All, I am a new grad and I am thrilled at the fact that I have been offered a position at a level II/III NICU. I don't have any prior experience in NICU but I do have 2 years expereince (clinical placement) in peads. I always thought that I woul...
