  1. Waste in the cafeteria

We also have a share table... but who knows what is on those little hands that take the item from the tray to the table... The food from the back also goes to the garbage can if not eaten. I do wish that these things could be donated.
  2. How would you handle this med request?

Our district allows us to give it with a parent note and them providing a new sealed bottle of whatever they want them to take. I'd give it if I had both of these things. But I'd probably roll my eyes around the corner wondering why it couldn't be gi...
  3. The Not So "Nursey" Things...

    How does this work?
  4. The Not So "Nursey" Things...

What are some of the things that come to your office that have NOTHING to do with the medical field? A common one at my school: "My pants are too big, do you have some string to tie them up?" LOL!!!!
  5. Wetting accidents

Because our clothing supply is extremely limited, I am quite stingy about giving out clothing to students. If it is a younger grade (K or PK4) and their parents are supposed to provide an extra change of clothing, I always call the parent because the...
  6. DM1 in Elementary Setting - Dealing with Parents

It ran through my mind but in past experiences, if it's not what THEY deem as "life or death," nothing will be done. It makes me so sad.
  7. Staff Hysteria

Our contracts state that we are also there to care for staff as well as students. I can't tell you how much Ibuprofen I give out daily... #ISTHISWALMART?
  8. School nurse VS school secretary

I would address with my principal and my school nurse coordinator if you have one in your district. If they didn't resolve the problem, I would personally leave.
  9. DM1 in Elementary Setting - Dealing with Parents

There is an order for ketones but I have been instructed by the parent to only check them if BG stays high. Unfortunately in our district, what the parent says, trumps the order when it comes to things like that. I just have to document that I was to...
  10. DM1 in Elementary Setting - Dealing with Parents

I do have doctors orders but that's not where my concern is. My concern is the lack of healthy options being provided and habits taught at home. It's just frustrating because it's a simple fix (at home.)
  11. This is my 5th year in our school clinic but my first time dealing with a difficult parent in terms of taking care of their diabetic child. Examples -- Lunches are packed daily and carb counts are always sent via a note however -- the meal goal (per...
  12. Silly rant, but people keep steeling my tissues

It was driving me crazy LOL, I wanted to know too... (As I sit at my desk and stare at a tube of it...)
  13. school stock meds given, do you notify?

We have standing doctors orders for our stock meds. If it's out of the norm, I will send a note home just because I don't want the parent to not realize and give a duplicate dose when the child gets home and still complains (Elementary school here.)
  14. What computer program do you use?

    Our school district uses CareDox.
