  1. Regret Becoming an NP

I'd advise anyone thinking about NP school or any school in general to HAVE A PLAN. No substitute for thinking things through in advance. State schools in Texas for FNP are dirt cheap. So target those. Then: 1) take out a loan and have a plan to have...
  2. Regret Becoming an NP

There are definitely pros and cons. I work in the Houston area and prior to becoming an NP, I worked contract as a critical care nurse and could bring home $45/hour plus all the differential (shift, weekend, OT, etc.). I know of people who make as mu...
  3. "Cinch" for FNP malpractice insurance?

Anyone heard of Cinch medical malpractice insurance run by Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance? Got a mailer from them recently and occurrences coverage is 33% the price of similar coverage through NSO. Anyone have any experiences?
  4. Fellow NPs: What's your strategy for retirement?

Interesting choice. I'm doing index funds right now (60/40 stock/bond ratio) and hoping to one day crack 6 figures for my nest egg (preferably with digits >1 or 2 for the leading number). I don't know how America will turn out in the next 20-30 ye...

Teaching sounds like an option. I thought teaching A&P at a community college might be fun. I don't think I want to teach nursing at age 70; something different but related would be a nice change. And A&P still fascinates me to this day.
  7. Fellow NPs: What's your strategy for retirement?

Certainly, I agree with what you say: one should not practice if one is not mentally or physically able to meet the demands of the job. I've worked my entire life since I was 14, and I guess I have some anxiety about being out of the workforce, even...
  8. Fellow NPs: What's your strategy for retirement?

What about when you turn 68? Will you cut bait?
  9. Fellow NPs: What's your strategy for retirement? 1) Retire by X age and let my license lapse (since will have no practice hours to renew license); Ball out and party and hope nothing happens to nest egg 2) Keep working the minimum amount to keep rene...
