Meeting AHPRA requirements as a International Trained Nurse from the Philippines

Published

@connexion: they only require 3years experience for monash scholarship? But i have read in monash website that 5years exp. Is needed to be accepted for iron..

@connexion

I'm still waiting for AHPRA decision which went on Board last week. I was informed by a friend about this scholarship program which she attended for a briefing. She urged me to apply. I was hesitant at first, primarily because it sounded tooo good to be true and secondly because I am hoping I can bypass bridging program. But I did apply, went on for the initial screening then an interview through skype then, I guess it was another screening. As of now, no words from the company/ies if I passed the scholarship. Their last email was about the requirements.

But the company wanted me to make a loan which I'm very hesitant to do so because I think I can cover for the expenses for the visas, airfare, accommodation and other expenses but then I can borrow some funds for the bridging.

Granted that I'll be lucky enough to be granted with the scholarship which is worth 12,500 +++ AUD, can I tell the company/ies that I can work on my own from then on? I mean, I won't subscribe to any other services that they have, is that possible? I am seriously don't want to make a loan and it seems thag the company/ies wants me to sign up for the loan so that I can get the scholarship. If it's fine, how can pay for the service that they provided for the scholarship alone?

I traced some of the people behind the company/ies, it seems that they have a long time experience with nurses doing the bridging program.

Howdy!

Alright! On tonight's post, I will focus on Monash University's IRON Programme.

Monash's requirements can be found on their website however, when I shot them a message, I was told that they have tasked an external partner for the screening of candidates so I'd say that the requirements are different from their website.

Monash's external partner is Auss-One corp, they offer a lot of ancillary services which complement the BP very well (such as migration advise). Auss-One is an Australian entity and to operate in Manila, they need a partner which is Education Linkages. How do I know this? I sent Monash University an e-mail and it was automatically forwarded to Education Linkages.

This afternoon while visiting some friends, I decided to pay Auss-One's office a visit, they have relocated to a prime high-traffic location although I'd say their visibility is poor. I was greeted by one of Education Linkages' staff and there I raised quite a couple of questions. Here's the gist:

1. They offer scholarships (BP) for Filipinos weather off-shore or on-shore, there is no preference.

2. They are tasked with screening, the final decision rests with Monash University itself.

3. Despite not meeting the 5 year requirement found in the website, I was advised to submit an application (which I will in a few days).

4. The fee is 12500 if you are coming from the Philippines, 13K+ if onshore due to GST.

5. The program is comprised of 5 weeks on-line module, 1 week intensive class, 6 weeks placement (12 weeks total). Placement locations are Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth.

I was told that the high standards required are for them to assess the viability of the candidate as not everyone pushes through with the BP and after the BP, not everyone follows through with finding work and settling permanently. The person I spoke with expressed their concern with the unfavourable outlook of 457 visas (less companies sponsoring, no other reasons) and thus, they are looking at the PR pathway.

To answer the question above, nurses are not compelled to avail of the full package (immigration advise, job placement, etc.) and may opt for the BP only.

Nice!

Oh, it seems the placement venue in Sydney or Perth would be a hassle if coming from Melbourne for 1 week of intensive phase (for offshore applicant).

Anyway, did you ask what exact date in January will they commence the program? And if the intensive and clinical phase will proceed simultaneously after the online modules?

If one does not avail other services such as migration lawyer, career management, are we going to pay anything to Auss One or ELP for processing our applications on behalf of Monash? Well, it is still a hard work from them to facilitate all of these and I think it should be paid.

Thank you!

Hmmm I suppose we still have to pay them as the term he used was "complete package". There's no such thing as "free" as far as my experiences have taught me though I didn't get to ask that because it was nearly 5pm when I got there. I'm just hoping that it will be at least like IDP, they find applicants and process their papers and in return, the uni gives them a finder's fee. I'll be keeping in touch with them though and I'll make sure to include that as a follow-up question. I think the most important thing we achieved today was that we established the legitimacy of the partner "agent" As for the exact dates, he said that Monash is yet to finalize the exact start dates but they are expecting the uni to provide them with the dates soon. Tentative ones are January, May, and August.

Hello, I am Korean nurse and new here, it seems there are many people doing the AHPRA process.

We have no community to share the information of this process in Korea and I would like to join the long waiting process...

I lodged my application on August 2014, and the initial review is completed and the national team is assessing it from October..

I am not sure if i could be able to get the LOE as I have never seen Korean nurse tried this process.. but i will just be patient and wait until process is finished, Is there any special agreement of nursing education between AUS and Philipines?, as i can see so many nurses from Philippines apply this process, i hope we have this community in korea as well.

hope AHPRA can recognise korean BSc qulifications too ;D

Thank you

Hi, its a little bit funny, correct me if I'm wrong but i think what Monash is offering is the actual price for there IRON program. I think the ad in the workabroad site in the Philippines is just misleading. They are just using the word scholarship to lure the applicants into their service. It's not a scholarship grant, it's the actual fee. The only catch is that they offer an online delivery of the course in their module, which could let applicants save in matters of fare and accommodation if they are not yet in Australia by that time. I mean if you are still gonna wait for the scholarship grant which is not really a scholarship, since that is the usual range of BP tuition fee here in aus, I think it would be better to explore other universities perhaps like Deakin, or even private providers as long as their accredited with AHPRA. Just saying...

@ldvc.,still no update from my RO. No specific timeframe for the review, she just emailed me saying probably in the upcoming months. Sort of frustrating.

@chocopay

Welcome!

It would take longer for your application to be processed if Korean nursing degree in general is still to undergo a research by AHPRA. Their research outcome about accreditation process in Korea should be similar to them for you to be registered, if not, then may be you will be like us who will need bridging program.

No, there's no agreement between Philippines and Australia.

Goodluck!

Hi @mae_oz

I have posted few pages back my skepticism about the Monash program and my reasons why.

Sorry, I don't really get the reason behind your post. Maybe you can share it with us especially if you have personal info about them.

Well, as for me my skepticism stems from signing a loan for the program and subscribing from their other services. Jmolina1985 posted that we are not compelled to take these services and bite which makes it clearer for me. Other poster also said that we can choose to just get the scholarship only.

Can you elaborate more?

@official02 do the agency in the Philippines requires you to pay to be a scholar in the iron program of monash? if they are requiring you to pay [COLOR=#454545]AUD$12,500 +GST (total AUD$13,750), then its not really a scholarship grant because it is the actual costs and the usual range of IRON program in aus. What I am saying IS THAT THE SCHOLARSHIP GRANT AD IS MISLEADING, instead of taking time applying for that so called scholarship, which is not really a scholarship grant i think, why not apply directly to the uni offering IRON- saves time and effort.

I feel you. That's what my RO said too. And he doesn't even reply to my emails. The wait is indeed frustrating.
