Medsurg certification

Published

Hello fellow awesome medsurg nurses,

I am trying to decide on which medsurg certification to go for. The ANCC or the AMSN. I welcome all opinions and advice.

ANCC only gives a BC (board certified) after your credentials, with no designation to what the specialty is. This makes it hard for anyone trying to verify, because they offer many tests, and many times do not answer requests--as my NM has had the frustration of learning when trying to ascertain any certification. AMSN is for M/S nurses only.....most on my unit, myself included, chose this for this reason. Good luck whichever route you take.

Thank-you so much for your reply.

Also I love your name!!

Hee hee! I truly am a mess!

I went for the CMSRN too. I looked at the study materials for each test and the CMSRN covered more real/relevant content in more patient areas. I am not going to lie to you -- the study guide and 2 day test seminars are intense but very good preparation.

Specializes in med surg.

I also went for the CMSRN, med surg needs to be realized as a speciality and this denotes it the best/
