Hello I am a nursing student here going into my second block and I will be doing clinicals on a med surg floor. I was wondering if anyone can give me an idea of the most common classes of drugs or what meds are most prescribed. I want to study these meds before clinical. Thank you!

narcotics

antibiotics

anti emetics

steroids

not sure about others these are meds i am on after I have surgeries. I am not a nursing student yet, will be starting in sept.

Hi, your heading is Post Op, but your message is med surg. Do you want general med/surg meds, or more specific post op meds?

Narcotics, anti-emetics, anti-biotics are the main post-op medications. Will see every other class thrown in as home medication routines. Get a good drug book and know how it is set up. Much easier than trying to learn all of the medications. Nurses always look up new meds, you won't be look out of place!

I would add only anticoagulants and antihypertensive meds

totally agree with the poster here on having a good drug reference! i look at mine constantly and often over and over again on some meds that i don't give as often.

Thank you to everyone who replied! I do have a great med book. It Saunders but I just want to study up on the meds a little bit so I know the basics.
