i found that most questions i practice dealt with side effects or adverse effects i thought i should list some recurrent ones.
here goes....
lithium (bipolar mania)
*extreme thirst
*feeling restless or confused
*muscle stiffness
*mild nausea, vomiting (early signs)
*ringing in your ears (early signs)
*blurred vision (early signs)
*diarrhea (early signs)
*mild tremor of the hands
phenytoin (antiseziure)
*slurred speech
*tremor of the hands
*overgrowth of the gums(gingival hyperplasia)
*nausea, vomiting
*abnormal involuntary movements
*dizziness
carbamazepine (antiseziure)
*dangerously low red and white blood cell counts
*hepatitis, resulting in jaundice
*stevens-johnson syndrome: a serious systemic allergic reaction with a characteristic rash involving the skin and mucous membranes, including the inside of the mouth due to hypersensitivity.
cephalosporins (antimicrobial)
* superinfection
*increased bun and creatine levels (nephrotoxcity)
**do not take if allergic to penicillin**
ssri's (fluvoxamine,paroxeline,fluxetine,escitalopram)
*diarrhea
*skin rash
*sexual dysfunction
*insomnia ( with most antidepressants)
theophylline (asthma)
*flushing and palpitations
*seizures
*ventricular heart arrhythmias
*headaches
cimetidine (reduce stomach acid)
*confusion and hallucinations (usually in elderly or critically ill patients)
*decreased white blood cell counts
*nausea, and vomiting
*impotence (usually seen in patients on high doses for prolonged periods)
*fatigue
*headache
*insomnia
diltiazem chest pain (angina)
*dizziness,
*weakness or fainting because of slow heart rate
*rash
*constipation
digoxin (atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter and hf)
*visual disturbances ( blurred vision, halo effect)
*arrhythmias (supraventricular arrhythmias are more common in infants and children)
*nausea/ vomiting
*pvc's
propranolol (lowers blood pressure)
*jaundice
*feeling light-headed
*depression
*low blood pressure
*numbness, tingling, cold extremities
*shortness of breath or wheezing
*bradycardia
lidocaine
*tremors
*seizure
*blurred vision
*ringing in the ears
haloperidol (antipsychotic)
*extrapyramidal effects (sudden, often jerky, involuntary motions of the head, neck, arms, body, or eyes)
*orthostatic hypotension
*hyperactivity
diazepam (anxiety, acute alcohol withdrawal, and seizures)
*drowsiness
*vertigo
*diplopia
*dysarthria (slurred speech)

what a great post!!! i am printing it and drilling it into my brain!
i just finished a 4 day live review for nclex-pn, and the lecturer kept reminding us that almost all psych meds (including ssri's) have anticholenergic effects such as drying of the mucous membranes, dry mouth, urinary retention, constipation, blurred vision end confusional states.

Infliximab ( Remicade ) for GI antiinflammatory and for RA:
Side effects are - fatigue, headache, upper respiratory tract infection, dyspnea, HTN, abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting,fever, infusion reactions.
Morphine for pain:
Side effects are - confusion ( esp.with the elderly ), sedation, respiratory suppression, hypotension, bradycardia, constipation, nausea, sweating, flushing, tolerance, dizziness.
