I think it's a great idea....while I had it over 20 years ago, there's some things that sounded familiar going through my first semester and a lot more that was "Latin" to me....I don't think there's any way you will regret it and when the instructors start talking in medical terms, you'll be WAY ahead of the game for those who are new to the lingo!! It will also save you time when you get to the part of the course where you are required to learn/know things like combining forms, prefixes, etc.
Best wishes!!
I am taking the basic med term class. It's 2.5 credits vs the 4 credit med term class.
I am taking it in the packet format and I have already received my packet. It looks simple enough and I can't wait to start!
Neither class is a prereq but I wanted to take it to get a headstart. Also, I needed a class to round out my schedule to stay full time and this was it.
It is not a requirement at my school either but I took it anyway and I'm so glad that I did. It has really given me a leg up on most of the other students in my nursing program. While they struggle learning the terminology I can focus on the subject at hand. You have made a great choice.
Is anyone else taking this class? I decided this morning to defintely take it. They took it out of the pre-requisites, but I am taking it anyway.
I would have taken this class if my school offered it! I think it should be a pre-req as I found that people who were familiar with medical terminology did better in my microbiology and even a&p classes. I bought a book and also have the Mosby's Program that has the medical terminology on it.
Sounds awesome.
