Time to go??

Specialties Med-Surg

I've been working as an LPN on nights for a little over a year now and I just got a clinic job offer. I'm toiling with the decision to leave or stay. I hate 12 hour shifts. I hate our ratios. I am tired of being responsible for 7-8 patients by myself and never having any aides to help with vitals or brief changes. I have young children and I'm tired of missing bedtime 4 days a week and sleeping when they're up and wanting me. But it will be a substantial pay cut if I take the clinic job. No more weekends. No more holidays. Home every night to tuck the critters in. I know no one can make this decision for me but I would appreciate some input from other nurses. Any thoughts? Is it time to go?

If you can afford the pay cut, I'd jump at the opportunity. You only have one life, there's no sense being unhappy if you can avoid it.

The pay cut is not ideal but my hubby makes enough I think we'll be okay. I'm just miserable in this job and I don't think I can do it anymore.

A job isn't worth being miserable for no matter what you make. I believe your kids and husband want a happy mommy above all. I know everyone has bills to pay and food to put on the table, but if you and your spouse can sustain with your clinic income, I'd go with that bc it sounds like what you want.

No amount of money is worth being miserable and not being there for your children.

You hit it right on the head there. I'm not there for them and I really need to be. I've interviewed for the other job and gone in for my drug test and to sign for my background check. It is time to go. Thank you all for the kind words!
