  1. As others have said, it depends on the office. At the clinic I work for now, the nurses also double as the scribe for the physician. We are in the room with the docs during every patient encounter and are basically transcribing the progress note on the patient during that encounter. We are of course responsible for the usual: vital signs, history, injections, EKGs, etc. This is the first place I've ever been that does the transcription thing tho. I've learned a lot about disease processes and treatments doing this.

You hit it right on the head there. I'm not there for them and I really need to be. I've interviewed for the other job and gone in for my drug test and to sign for my background check. It is time to go. Thank you all for the kind words!

The pay cut is not ideal but my hubby makes enough I think we'll be okay. I'm just miserable in this job and I don't think I can do it anymore.
  4. I've been working as an LPN on nights for a little over a year now and I just got a clinic job offer. I'm toiling with the decision to leave or stay. I hate 12 hour shifts. I hate our ratios. I am tired of being responsible for 7-8 patients by myself and never having any aides to help with vitals or brief changes. I have young children and I'm tired of missing bedtime 4 days a week and sleeping when they're up and wanting me. But it will be a substantial pay cut if I take the clinic job. No more weekends. No more holidays. Home every night to tuck the critters in. I know no one can make this decision for me but I would appreciate some input from other nurses. Any thoughts? Is it time to go?
  5. Thank you so much everybody for responding. It gives me hope. If you all have survived such bad situations and continue on as nurses, it gives me hope that I can get through my bad nights too.
  6. Bless you emtb2rn! I am so thankful people like you can work with peds. I know I am not cut out for it and I am grateful there are people that are.
  7. I work nights on a MedSurg floor and recently had what I like to call the worse shift ever. We were short staffed for the night and had no manager on the floor. During this shift we had two patients code and pass away and they both had the same birthday as me. I've only been an LPN for 9 months so this was my first experience with a night like this. I'd like to hear from the nursing community. So, tell me about your worst shift ever! P.s. I'm sorry if there is already a thread like this. I wasn't sure how to look for that.
  8. Thanks everybody! I do have my parents that help me quite a bit. I'm just struggling with time management and Med Surg is absolutely kicking my butt. I think my critical thinking needs some work!
  9. Hi everybody! I am halfway through an 11 month LPN program and I feel like I'm losing my mind. I'm a single mom of three kids. They are 4, 2 and a half and 13 months. I am havinh an extremely hard time balancing everything. I feel like my life right now is devoted to care plans. I'm struggling through my classes because I don't seem to have enough time. I don't work currently and I can only study or care planor work on assignments after the kids go to bed. Does anybody out there have any tips on coping? Does aanyone have any advice on remembering the mass of information that is Med-Surg? Anyone else feel like you signed away your sanity when you registered for nursing school? Thank you so much.
