I have read a lot on this site about externships and other programs that allow you to work in the hospital while going to school. The nursing program that I am in requires that we have medical insurance while we are in school Do these nursing assistant and extern programs offer medical insurance? Nursing school is confusing, they want you to work as little as possible, but require insurance. The only way to secure medical insurance is by working full-time. What do you Do?

You would likely be subject to the same requirements as any other employee re: eligibility for medical insurance (usually less than full-time status means you're either not eligible or may have to pay higher premiums.)
Does your school offer a (relatively) inexpensive student health insurance plan?

Most externships I've heard of don't offer health insurance benefits. A few do. (Lucky to be in one this summer that does!)
As to school-available-plans, they're cheap, but all I've seen provide ridiculously little coverage.
Would love to hear from someone here that can refer us to a decent plan for students (at a reasonable cost). Thanks!

I take mine through my school...its not wonderful, its catastrophic insurance. It wont pay for anything chronic or check ups or anything like that. I guess I feel assured that if I get hit by a car I will be taken care of but if I need an inhaler for my ashtma i'm out of luck! sigh...another reason I cant wait to start working.
