Medical College of Georgia- BSN Summer 2010

Hi, Just wondering if anyone has heard anything regarding acceptance?

I'm up there with you guys (sorta), but I have this nasty feeling that I won't get in because of my math/science GPA average. It's above a 3.0 though. Do you guys remember what you got? I also didn't have a high overall SAT score. Tinker, did you? I got devastated when things flipped and the math scores got listed with the verbal. I would have turned a score in that would have evened things out. I hope they pull my name out of a hat if it gets put in there.

My SAT's weren't that great...I had a 560 (verbal) and a 490 (math). I never took the SAT's when I graduated HS and taking them 15 years later was a little rough!

Do you remember your math/science GPA though? I think you said you had a 3.63, which makes me depressed. Mine isn't even a 3.5, but it would have been like yours if I missed one question less on any one of my exams for a course that I took. I need to get lucky in that hat so badly, and I know it. Next year things may work out a little bit better in my favor, since I finished my last math/science course and it's now at least a 3.5. A draw in the hat looks okay if I correct all the little things I did wrong.

Mine was lower than yours but they might have looked at it differently. Originally I had a C in A&P on the quarter system but when I retook them got B's on the semester system and lowered my GPA. I had A and B in everything but nothing like a 3.8

A master's degree means you've already proven yourself. If you look at who gets in to MCG's master degree programs in other threads (CNL), you can see why they let you in. Without a BSN or master's degree you have to prove yourself more than the others: You've already shown that you can do a BSN program and pass with good marks and an MSN program too. How can they be so sure about other students? Plus, they like people who take a range of courses. I have to prove myself more, but I can hope a little because I have a range of courses. After you retook your A&P courses did you make it higher than a 3.5?

That's the funny thing, my GPA was lowered because quarter grades count for more than semester. I can only assume that they took that into consideration. Even though I haven't used my counseling degree in a paying job, it definitely helps on the floor. I'm not sure if the fact that I'm older helped or hurt me, the people in my class seem awfully young. Good luck, you should hear something soon.

I'm a little bit confused about the order of things. First, you took A&P and made a C; then you retook A&P and made a B; then you transferred but your math/science GPA and overall GPA lowered. It sounds like you made higher than a 3.5 but after transferring it became less than a 3.5. This gives hope to me if it's true, but I don't want to get my hopes up too high. I hate that with bad news.

I took A & P right after high school (when ASU was still on the quarter system), played around and made a C & D respectively. I had to retake them and made B's for both courses. However, ASU had converted to the semester system so the hours counted less which lowered my GPA even though I made a better grade the 2nd time around. I know it doesn't make sense but if you do the weighted mean calculations that you learned how to do in statistics, you'll see the math works out. Yet another reason I don't trust stats.
