Medical City Dallas

Published

Hello all;) I am relocating to Dallas in two weeks (ahhh!!!). So I have been on the job hunt for about a month now. I interviewed at Parkland for the ER nurse residency already, but havent heard anything yet. I applied to medical city, and wanted to see if anyone has heard anything from them, or can give any info on the nurse internship process. I was researching the hospital and really like what I am seeing so far. I really hope to work there.

i applied but have yet to hear anything...

Medical City Hospital takes longer than most. They will not officially hire until the NCLEX has been passed. I guess they have been burned before, as most the local hospitals don't require this. I do know they are unlikely to hire ADNs unless you have an internal connection there. It is one of the harder places to get hired at.

Parkland has been notifying the new hires already and several people have claimed their spot. You might want to call them to see where you stand.

Thank you @ not.done.yet. I didnt know they would take so long. I already have my license and have my BSN already, so I hope they consider me. Is it a really good hospital? For they require alot compared to other Dallas hospitals?

They have very high patient satisfaction scores. I had a family member there for an extended period of time and for the most part the care was very good. I did clinicals there on one floor that had a lot of problems with some of the traditional cattiness and lateral violence you hear about on this floor.

My opinion is that it is an above average hospital but not without challenges.

Thank you for the response. I am going to call them tomorrow to see if I can get an update on the status of my application.

I went and visited Medical City last week and boy am I conflicted about it! I got an offer from them, but I ended up taking a position at another hospital. (I have experience, not a new grad.) I'm also from California, so I don't really know a lot about Dallas, but while the Medical City people were SO nice, the particular unit I interviewed on seemed very laid back. I'm not really used to that. They also did not offer me as extensive an orientation as the other hospital did, which factored into my decision a lot. However, I definitely got a very good feel from the place. I really hope I made the right decision, because while I did not choose to work for Medical City, I really do feel that it is a good hospital. I almost want to work for them per diem...

What unit did u interview for?

I interviewed on one of their oncology units. The people were so nice. However, Medical City just switched over to a PTO only plan with no separate sick leave account. This is my pet peeve. My last job did that, and because I had surgery, I did not get to take a vacation. Seems unfair. That was just one reason, but it did factor in. Working environment seemed nice though.

Well, we new grads are hoping to get a chance to at least interview there. Nice to see a fellow Californian in Dallas. I was born and raised in LA. I hope you will like Dallas.

Thanks! I lived and worked in the LA area for about a year. I considered going back there, but the cost of living is so high that I just made enough to cover the bills. Dallas was something new and the cost of living is lower. I hope you get to interview at Medical City. Have you tried UT Southwestern? I know they hire new grads, but I am not sure how many or when they hire them. I saw that you have a pretty academic background, so that might be a plus for you with a big academic medical center like that. Let us know what happens!

So I talked to the nursing recruiter and she said that they just now forwarded the applications to the managers on the unit. Progressive care unit ia filled already and telemetry is not taking any new grads at the time. I suggest that applicants call them to check the status. I applied to progressive and telemetry, so if I didnt call, she wouldnt have forwarded to any manager!

Good luck to all.
