MedAssisting prog @ ACC prior to LVN necessary?

Posted

Hey everybody I just recently spoke with ACC and Concorde here in Los Angeles. And the admissions reps insist that taking a 20+week medical assisting course prior to the LVN prog is needed since i dont have any backround in the medical field.

What do you guys think...im a pretty bright guy and I analyze and retiain new info pretty well. Did you find the course very difficult without any prior medical backround?

Thanks so much for any help.

No absolutely not necessary and those in my program who got talked into medical assisting first aren't fairing any better than those with no medical experience.

Just insist that you want to go straight into the LVN program and ask to sit the entrance HESI most students were not MA's/CNA's first.

Do not listen to the admissions representative, as his/her goal is to increase the school's profits. The school will make lots of money of you attend the 20-week medical assisting course, so that's their ulterior motive for offering this choice to you.

You do not need to become a medical assistant prior to enrolling in an LVN program.

No Don't Do It. They Just Want Your Money.

That's just a scam to get more money out of you. You certainly don't need your Medical Assisting certificate before you do the LVN program....Although clinical experience does help like your CNA...If anything I'd get the CNA first, now if your program has you doing basic nursing fundamentals, then there really is no need for the Medical Assisting or even the CNA because one can usually take the CNA exam after passing a fundamentals class.....Find another school...There are others out there that would tell you different. Good Luck

Thanks for all of your responses :)

I initially thought that they're suggestions to attend that program might be money motivated, and it looks like I was right. Thanks for chiming in and comfirming my suspicisions.

I am planning to go to visit the ACC campus in Los Angeles next Saturday (Dec. 13th) with my girlfriend. We plan on attending together:loveya: I"ll keep you guys posted.

Don't believe it! Try another school, there's a lot of schools out there. Do your research before. Call around. Here's a few other schools:

1. Casa Loma has a Hawthorne and Van Nuys campus

2. Pasadena City College (it has pre-requisites)

3. Preferred College of Nursing (Van Nuys, LA, Carson & Covina)

4. Kaplan College (Formerly Maric College) (North Hollywood)

....Just to name a few.

Good Luck!:yeah:
