I recently started a different nursing job and took the opportunity to get my med/surg certification, was so excited when I learned I passed. However, I haven't told many people at my work because I don't think others understand what this actually mean and they look at me as though I am stupid or something, so therefore I am wondering was it worth it all?? I feel like I have gained something, but at the same time it's pointless because even other nurses I work with don't get why I would want to do that?? I guess my question is was it really worth the time and money to do it?

Congratulations!!! I definitely think it is worth the timeand money spent. I honestly can’t take the test for a few more months so wishme luck. Your peers may just be embarrassed unfortunately. The certificationdoes give you an edge when applying for jobs and is recognized highly in theMagnet hospital that I work at.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Be proud of your accomplishmentand enjoy it!

What is this med-surg certification? I have never heard of it, but would definitely be interested in completing it!

Certifications and education are never something to be embarrassed about. CONGRATULATIONS!!

Why is it a bad thing? It is usually a badge of honor. I'm sure you didn't find it an easy peasy test. I know I didn't, lol.

Do you get paid extra monies? We make a 1.00 more an hour. Personally for me, it has gained me respect with my peers and with management. They understand that I'm serious about my specialty.

Thanks to all for the words of encouragement, I need to just take pride in myself regardless of whether people recognize my certification or not.

Yes you do. They are clueless or jealous. Be proud of what you earned! Not everyone puts themselves through a test just for the heck of it!

Congrats and welcome aboard!
