According to a report by the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress, comprehensive reforms in medical malpractice laws could improve access to health care, particularly for women, low-income individuals, and rural residents, as well as increase the number of Americans with health insurance by as many as 3.9 million people.

Good grief let me straighten you guys out ONCE AGAIN.....
I know everybody loves the mantra of big evil for-profit insurance carriers but that doesnt exist in the med mal world.
1) Half of all med mal carriers are NONPROFITS, OWNED AND OPERATED BY DOCTORS! I guess you would have us belive that doctors are screwing themselves over by price gouging each other in med mal premiums?
2) The nonprofit med mal companies dont invest in stock market, they tie their revenues directly to malpractice settlements and court losses.
3) Recent Harvard study shows that 40% of all suits filed are FRIVOLOUS.
4) Average cost to defend a frivolous suit that gets thrown out of court is $100,000!
5) State law puts strict limits on how much med mal companies can invest. For many states, its only 5-10% of revenues, which would account for only a small fraction of overall losses.
6) Recent study by a LAWYERS GROUP in New England showed that med mal carriers revenues/profits was tied DIRECTLY to med mal payouts and showed NO CORRELATION to investment losses
7) Juries dont understand how to resolve med mal cases in court. Every med mal case that goes to court revolves around 2 sets of "expert" witnesses. These "experts" argue back and forth and the jury doesnt know hwo's right and who's wrong. Thats when they start thinking about other issues such as sympathy for the victim.
8) "Expert" witnesses are a sham. They will outright lie and mislead the jury for a fat payday. Average expert witness makes more than $70,000 for one case, which typically involves about 40 hours worth of work. Thats 10 times higher income than they can make doing their regular job. You tell me any job that pays as well as 70k PER WEEK!
