Hi all,

Is there anyone living in the med center that could give me recommendations on where to live? Apts/condos suggestions appreciated. I've got a few condos in mind, but would like any advice as far as where it is safe and quiet....

Thanks!

Whoops I should have said in Houston. This is for Houston! :)

If you go to apartmentratings.com, there is very good info and comments from other people who have lived there. That's the site I went to when I moved to Houston. I heard that the area around the med center has a high crime rate, so just be careful where you move to. Feel free to PM me if you need any more info! :)

There are several areas in the med center that have great housing. On Almeda rd there are many good apartments that are safe and nice. Also on Braeswood there many nice places as well as on Holcombe/Bellaire Blvd. I would avoid just outside 610 loop and east of Highway 288 as well as north of the med center. Those areas are high crime and not that nice

I'm a little hesitant to move over there, but commuting from the Katy area doesn't appealing either! I have seen the crime maps and want to scope out the area. There are many students out there walking around right during the daytime? How about night time?

Thanks for the tidbits of info!

I see alot of students walking in the am and pm in the medical center area especially around holly hall street and fannin (infront of Reliant). Also have you looked at archstone apartments, lakes at 610 apartments, villas at corondo apartments or Park lake

I lived at Archstone a while and it was REALLY nice being directly across the street from the MetroRail. Could always find parking, too. However, our apt flooded when they were 'working' on the fire sprinklers and it took us half a year to get our money for it. Also extremely noisy at all hours of the night.

Next I moved to Park Lakes and it was really nice. I hear crime is high w/ breakins, but we had no problems..however we lived in bldg 12 and it's RIGHT across from a huge company that has stadium lighting all ALL night and they release employees at 2am every weeknight...and people wait to pick them up right outside that building. They had very loud bass systems. Parking gets VERY hard to find at night unless you have assigned covered parking. Ours was only $5 a month for covered. Garages are way more. But, it's a nice place with faux wood floors and garden tubs, crown molding, etc. Looks a lot nicer than the inside of Archstone. It's also nice to drive down that road behind the AstroWorld lot and park and ride for only $2 on the rail.

I'm gonna see if I can go today and check these places out. Thanks for your help!!!

I live in the med. center. Overall the area is safe, compared to Houston as a whole. Of course there will be some crime, it's Houston. Most of the complexes in the area are decent except Meadowridge (eeK!) but, I think the area is improving. I've never been a victim of crime and I feel safe as a single female living alone in this area.

Hello,

I found my son housing in Friendswood on Craigs list. Try that.
