OK, I have to write a two page essay:bluecry1: to send along with my nursing application. It has to be my opinion about a healthcare or social issue. I'm trying to think of topics:confused:, but I want it to refreshing. I do not want to write about a topic that the college has read thousands of times.:zzzzz So, that's were ya'll come in:D. (I'm a Georgian girl:yeah:) Your opinions will help start the wheels turning in my head. And I do not want to talk about anything political because thats just a negative thing to talk about period. :argue:
Thanks a bunch:D

Here is the site that you can read http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/03/06/vaccines-and-autism/ and get some information. Here's a quote from the site "the government has conceded that a vaccine “contributed” to their daughter’s autism symptoms." There is a link between autism and vaccines for some children. And if you google it you can find reliable sources that you would probably listen too besides a student like myself.
No I didn't say Larry King was reputable I just said the family was on the show, so if he wanted to look about the girl. Here is the site that you can check for yourself http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/03/06/vaccines-and-autism/ and if you google government agrees vaccine and autism there are other reliable sources that I think you would listen to. I'm not against vaccines I'm just open minded to the fact the human body reacts differently to every different situation.
A CNN blog doesn't qualify as a scientific resource either.
But I will give the blogger credit for the following statement: "...a Georgia family will describe how the government has conceded that a vaccine “contributed” to their daughter’s autism symptoms. The family will receive compensation from a federal vaccine court.
That doesn’t mean the federal government agrees that vaccines cause autism... Nor does this 9-year-old girl’s case mean the 4,900 other families in the vaccine court have won their claim that vaccines resulted in their children’s autism."
I'm not doubting your belief because you are a student. I am doubting your belief because dozens of studies done by reputable scientists and reported in peer-reviewed journals have failed to support it.
I'm not trying to be argumentative, just trying to help you appreciate the importance of scientific evidence in any topic you choose, in order to present yourself in the best light to the selection committee. Trust me, they don't want to hear junk science from the popular (and often inaccurate) press.
Well, the thing is that I know personally of a woman who is working with doctors that have done studies that could support the idea. Isn't that normally the case you have doctors saying one thing and other doctors saying another. That's always why I believe in getting a 2nd opinion. But you know what there are several doctors that believe that the world is millions of years old, but the thing is if your are a christian you wouldn't believe the source would you? Well, I'm a christian and do not believe that we decended from monkeys or that the earth is a millions of years old. So, I'm the odd ball.
I want to say thank you to you and the other non-believer because it shows that this issue is controversial. I want to write about something that does not cause contreversy at all because the person who reads my essay may believe like you do and it would hurt my chance of getting in. Like, I said before you may want to do a little more research about this topic yourself because I have. I'm an open minded person and before I make any decisions I read both sides of the story, so I do my research I don't just make up mind on something w/o reading the facts.
I don't think that avoiding a controversial topic is the important issue. Virtually any topic in healthcare invites some degree of debate, so it may be impossible, not to mention very boring, to avoid it altogether.
What IS important is to show the selection committee that you are capable of presenting a comprehensive discussion of a topic, based on scientific fact.
Good luck !

I have a number of issues with this statement, but they're off-topic, so you can PM me or IM me to discuss further if you wish.

I'm a big fan of writing about the current healthcare crisis and issues with access to healthcare, but that's just me. There problem with that issue is that one ends up either supporting the rather crappy status quo or having to side with those who want universal health care, which I'm not sure is an argument you want to make.
Lastly, I have to wonder why you're becoming a nurse when you show signs of rejecting the science that the medical fields are based on.
I want to be a nurse because I have been fascinated with the medical field. But the thing is that not all doctors or scientist believe that this earth is millions of years old. It's all a theory, there are no facts that show or support other wise. See the thing is majority of people believe in that theory, so no matter what job I pick there will always be someone that does not agree with me. I'm choosing a job that I know I would be good at. Besides, I will not and wouldn't discuss and political views with patients. I only have to answer to one person and that is GOD. I'm a christian and I can not believe a theory that has no evidence.

Christianity has nothing to do with opposing evolution. Biblical literalism, yes, but not Christianity. I would know, I'm a lapsed Catholic.
As creationism and other anti-scientific positions are horribly off topic, I won't argue them here (though, if you really want, I can provide an alternate online venue) but I will provide a link to the List of Creationist Claims, complete with many and multiple rebuttals, refutations, and calling of bull****. Anyone who wants can look this stuff up on their own time.

I can't emphasize enough the importance of using reputable, scientific resources, regardless of the topic you choose.
Larry King is neither scientific nor reputable.
