Oh I feel your pain.... I too started a OR residency, and it has been quite the experience. Before getting this job I knew that personalities varied, as it does in life. However, it seems as though that everyone is miserable and complaining about what a person did or didn't do. It's really ridiculous. Anyway, I'm getting off tract.... my emotions are getting me started :0) I consider myself an easy going and friendly person who tries to treat others the way I would like to be treated. Because I am new and clueless I do not feel confident. Like someone else mentioned, as soon as I get the hang of things and feel confident I move on to another preceptor, who tells me everything I learned is wrong. Oh my it drives me crazy. Today, I was yelled at by a doctor because I moved a nanosecond before a 'Time Out,' seriously.... I was spiking a saline bag for the bovie irrigation and my preceptor is looking for the consent to do the time out and the doctor freaks out on me. My preceptor wasn't even talking yet. And God for bid if I don't plug things up, then that becomes another issue. From the horror stories that I have heard from other nurses, this is normal. We just need to plug along. Learn from our mistakes and remember to kill people with kindness. Life is to short to let people walk all over us.

It's been a month since you posted, but I thought I would respond because not to long ago I was in your shoes. I'm a spring 2011 graduate. First year tends to be a shocker for most people due to the fact that how you study and learn is different than studying for a History class. I really can't tell you if you would be able to take English with nursing courses, only you would know that. Personally, I could only handle taking the nursing class, but I'm also a single parent of two boys and not working. There were some students taking a full load of prereq and nursing classes. Do not know how they did it. But to give you an idea I would rather take the English class during the 1st year than the 2nd year. As far as clinical, we spent about a month doing lab type clinicals before starting in the hospital. We only had one day of clinical, which was either Wed or Fri and class on Monday. You will have to also do a couple of check offs that will make or break you. If you don't have a mentor yet I wouldn't mind answering any other questions. One piece advice I can give you from someone who had an interview last summer, is take a deep breath and relax. And I know that's hard to do, but you need to be yourself. If you come to the interview all nervous that will not be a good sneak peak of you. The questions that I were asked, and this is from another school. 1. Why did choose this school? 2. What kind of job experiences have you had? 3. Have you ever had to make a decision at work, if so how did you handle it. 4. Do you believe in keeping a patients status confidential; like do you believe in gossiping, that kind of thing. 5. Why do you believe you would be a good nurse? I stressed over my interview too, but I will tell you no matter what advice you get from this post you just need to go in their with your head high and believe in yourself. I know some colleges have advisors that will help guide you through a interview, so you should check with your college. Break a leg:nuke:

I want to be a nurse because I have been fascinated with the medical field. But the thing is that not all doctors or scientist believe that this earth is millions of years old. It's all a theory, there are no facts that show or support other wise. See the thing is majority of people believe in that theory, so no matter what job I pick there will always be someone that does not agree with me. I'm choosing a job that I know I would be good at. Besides, I will not and wouldn't discuss and political views with patients. I only have to answer to one person and that is GOD. I'm a christian and I can not believe a theory that has no evidence.

I do not know what's wrong with ya'll I did not say that CNN was reliable either. I just gave a web address that talked about the issue, so you guys could see what I was talking about. Go McCain:yeah:

Well, the thing is that I know personally of a woman who is working with doctors that have done studies that could support the idea. Isn't that normally the case you have doctors saying one thing and other doctors saying another. That's always why I believe in getting a 2nd opinion. But you know what there are several doctors that believe that the world is millions of years old, but the thing is if your are a christian you wouldn't believe the source would you? Well, I'm a christian and do not believe that we decended from monkeys or that the earth is a millions of years old. So, I'm the odd ball. I want to say thank you to you and the other non-believer because it shows that this issue is controversial. I want to write about something that does not cause contreversy at all because the person who reads my essay may believe like you do and it would hurt my chance of getting in. Like, I said before you may want to do a little more research about this topic yourself because I have. I'm an open minded person and before I make any decisions I read both sides of the story, so I do my research I don't just make up mind on something w/o reading the facts.

No I didn't say Larry King was reputable I just said the family was on the show, so if he wanted to look about the girl. I'm not against vaccines I'm just open minded to the fact the human body reacts differently to every different situation.

Wow, really I haven't heard of that. I'll definetly look in to that. Ultrasounds to me I always that they were like x-rays, not safe. But doctors tell you differently. Thanks:D Brooke

The thing is there is a link to vaccines and autism. Even the government has come out to say that there was. I do not know if you have heard about a girl who was "normal" before she went to the dr.s office to get caught up on her vaccines. The doctor gave 9 vaccines all at once, and I don't know how much time there was between that and when she started acting different I'm rusty on this story. But the family was on Larry King Live and they annouced that there was a link between the two, especially, if a person carries a particular gene. Now, the girl has autism. They are saying that because of the mercury in the vaccines is what caused the autism. But that was done before the made mercury free vaccines. Supposedly, there are thousands of case on this issue.

Nothing has personally affected me, so that's why I was trying to get ideas. And I don't know anyone that has had an healthcare issue. Thanks:D

That's funny, I was going to add how I thought about writing about Autism in my thread, but I was trying to make it short. Yeah, I was thinkning about Autism because I know people who are doing research about the tie between vaccines and Autism. Thanks a bunch

OK, I have to write a two page essay:bluecry1: to send along with my nursing application. It has to be my opinion about a healthcare or social issue. I'm trying to think of topics:confused:, but I want it to refreshing. I do not want to write about a topic that the college has read thousands of times.:zzzzz So, that's were ya'll come in:D.
