GSU to GPC
That makes perfect sense. If cost is an issue I would take your core at GPC. I start the ASN program at NGCSU in August, but took all my core at GPC. The professors there are top-notch and the cost is a fraction of the four year schools. I would take what you have to take for your English degree at GSU, and take your science-nursing pre reqs at GPC. I would take as many online that you can take. Depending on your math skills. I would not recommend Chemistry or Micro online, but A&P lecture 1 and 2 are classes that can be easily taken online. GPC does not charge an arm and let for their online classes. Good luck.

GSU to GPC
Why do you not take classes and apply to GSU bachelors program? To be honest getting a BSN is preferred to a ASN. I'm getting my ASN at NGCSU, and GPC is great as well, but if you are already enrolled at GSU, why not apply there as well?

Does it matter which school to take pre-reqs- PLEASE HELP
In my opinion and experience Dunwoody was great!!!! I really loved most of my professors. If you really want to be a nurse bad enough then you will do fine. I know for me it has always been a dream to be a nurse so I have put all my heart and soul into it. Good luck to you.

Opnions on College of Nursing at MCG?
WOW, what a big decision. The Medical College of Georgia is a great school. My brother went to med school there, but that was at the main campus which is in Augusta, GA. Augusta, GA is not a great place to live, and I believe you would suffer greatly from culture shock. (Sorry if I offend, I'm from Georgia so I can say this honestly). However, the nursing program is in Athens, GA which is the home to the University of Georgia, which is our biggest state school. Athens, is a great, quaint town, and life centers around the university. The south really really loves our college football and on any given Saturday in the fall, Athens is the place to be. If I was not married and had started school at a much younger age then I would have loved to get a nursing degree to MCG. I don't think it is that hard to get accepted, but I'm not sure. I think that you would have a leg up since you would be an out of state student, but that is purely a guess. The weather in Athens is very nice. This part of the state really does enjoy 4 seasons, compared with the southern part of the state. Be warned that us "southerns", don't know how to drive on ice or snow, so the towns shut down with only an inch of snow or even a chance of snow. You will probably think it warm enough to wear shorts when we are all wearing heavy winter coats :). The people around this part of the state are friendly, fun and genuine. I don't know your age, but if you are not "college aged", you may find Athens a bit boring. Athens is about one and half hours from the Atlanta. I'm sure most of this information you could have found on the internet, but hopefully I have been helpful.

Does it matter which school to take pre-reqs- PLEASE HELP
Here is my advice. It really matters where you want to go to nursing school, well sorta. If you want to go to North Georgia then I would take all your core there, because they don't require chemistry before you take A&P 1, 2 and micro. With that being said, I took all my pre-reqs at GPC Dunwoody and Clarkston, and got accepted to North Georgia for Fall of 2011. I had to take chem 1511 as a prereq for A&P 1 , 2 and micro. I don't think I'm allowed to give profesorrs name here, but I would recommend you go to http://www.ratemyprofessor.com to read their reviews. I know of several good ones. I just finished micro at the Dunwoody campus this May. Good luck to you. I'm a mom as well, it has been hard, but well worth it. You can do it!!!!:)

What to expect first year at NGCSU Asn program
I will start the ASN program in August and I need some advise from recent graduates or second year students. I have finished all my core classes for the ASN program and have began to work on my BSN core. I want to know how difficult the first semester Really is? I will have 6 hours of nursing classes and wanted to take a 3 hour english lit class, but don't want to overload myself. Can anyone give me an idea what to expect. Will I have time to study/read/write for an English class, when do clinicals begin, etc. Any advise, comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

North Ga College And State University Fall 2010!!
nrice28, I wanted to touch base with you since you have completed your first year of nursing school at the Lanier campus. CONGRATS!!! I start in August at the Lanier Campus. Can you answer some questions for me. Do you start clincals the first semester? If so when? Do you recommend taking any other classes with the 6 hours of nursing classes. I have completed all my ASN pre-reqs, but was wondering if I could handle an Eng lit class as well. How much time did you have to study for just the nursing classes? Did you have to be at campus at 6:30am until 3pm, the schedule says that is the hours, I was wondering what it really entails. Any input of advice you could give would be GREATLY appreiciated. Sincerely, Falconwidow :)

Why did you take up nursing? What's your story?
I graduated high school 20 years ago with no career goals or path. I worked retail and at a dental office. After 5 years, I realized my job prospects were dreary without a college degree so I enrolled in a local college. Well life happened after two semesters, got married, moved out of town, had kids etc. My brother by now had graduated college, and medical school and was a doctor. I have two children with chronic conditions, epilepsy, hypoglycemia, allergies, asthma, ezcezma, etc. I spent many nights/days at the hospital with them. I would be there with them, and was wishing I could help with the crying baby next door, lonely child without visitors/parents, etc. Well in in Nov -2009 my dd got swine flu and ended up spending 10 days at the hospital with 3 of them being in PICU. I was concerned but calm. I was amazed at how well she was treated by the nurses, RT's, doctors, etc. It was at this time that I felt that if I can handle my own child being critical and not lose my cool, then I could be a nurse. I enrolled in college within two weeks of her being discharged. I managed to complete 33 hours in 4 semesters, while maintaining a 3.93 GPA and got accepted to a ASN program here. I start in Fall of 2011. I'm so excited about my future, I'm 40 and I know I'm not the youngest, but I hope my age will help me. My brother and his wife have been one of my biggest supporters and he has said all along that I was meant to be a nurse. I look forward to when I can sign my name with RN at the end.

North Georgia College & State University Fall 2011
I called on Monday to ask should I go ahead and schedule medical exam/drug test/etc and they told me to wait until we hear back from them. I emailed my intent letter over first thing Monday morning and paid my confirmation deposit as well. I don't want to get kicked out school for failing to pay that $200. I was waiting to hear from nursing dept before I paid it, well now I know:yeah:, so I was glad to give them my money!! Let's keep our fingers crossed for our friends on the waiting list.

North Georgia College & State University Fall 2011
Okay I have lost my mind. I dreamed last night I got my acceptance letter, but they wanted my parents to sign the form. My parents died over 10 years ago, so I was freaking out about what to do. How weird.

North Georgia College & State University Fall 2011
I sat on the porch today waiting for the mail lady and was so disappointed. I going to be a nervous wreck until we hear. My friend called today to ask if she should retake the teas and they told her that it would not matter, that they will not accept it now. They also told her that her chances were good. She got a 69 on Teas, but her GPA is 3.72. She is/was very nervous about her TEAS scores. Happy Valentines, I guess I will put a smile on my face and go cook dinner for the family. Happy Valentines Day, hopefully next year we can say that to each other face-to-face. :redpinkhe Cheers, Mel

North Georgia College & State University Fall 2011
I'm with you I could use some loving. With the cost of college I don't expect a big gift and to be honest that would be the best gift I could get. Good luck, I'm sure you are fine. I'll cross my fingers for you as well. Cheers, Mel
