MDC Nursing spring 2014

U.S.A. Florida

So I'm starting the post for Spring 2014. I'm currently waiting for my acceptance letter for fall term but just in case applying for spring is my back up plan.

So my GPA is 3.0 and my teas is 72 giving me a score around 73.

Since I didn't get a first round email for fall I'm thinking of retaking my teas test so if anyone is willing to study with me please let me know. Good luck to everyone applying for spring!!

They also have the littman stethoscope in all different colors for 56.99

So today I went to the nursing department to turn in all the paperwork before tomorrow's orientation. When I told the lady behind the window that I wanted to decline the flu shot she told me that I can't decline and that I have to get the shot; I can't opt out. I was under the impression that it was optional, but I guess not? Regardless, I'm going to wait and see what they say at orientation. I really wish everyone would get on the same page!

I'm hesitant to get it too :(

@Mo325, Your 100% right it does say we can decline, but it also states the clinical sites can refuse or put you through other measures . Since clinical sites are far and few between with so many nursing schools fighting for clinical sites. Each student health record gets submitted and reviewed by the clinical sites, and speaking from experience they will deny any students that do not meet the criteria they want , if your coming into their hospitals. As well the college is not willing to lose a clinical site contract because a student cant visit a certain clinical location. I agree with you and fought to decline the flu shot, until i was told the hospital would not let me do the OB rotation. If your goal is to work with the public in he medical field get used to taking unwanted shots.

The only way anyone can really decline flu shots are if you have a written statement from your doctor you have a egg allergy, immunocompromised(AIDS/ HIV infected, cancer patient, steriod treatment,etc...)

Hope the info helps

Does anyone know what will happen if we do not have the DCF letter by orientation? I had some problems with mine although I'm not sure what could be causing it. Also, has anyone gotten the hepatitis shot or is it optional?

Did you start your hep b?

Did you start your hep b?

No, I didn't need it!

No I didn't need it![/quote']

Oh! Did you already have it from when you were a baby?

My titers came back saying I was highly resistant to hep B. I'm wondering if I still have to get it.

No, I think you're good! My titers indicated that I'm immune so I didn't need the vaccine!

Accelrated option check your emails they sent a handbook that you need to take to the orientation on monday!
