MDC Nursing Fall 2017

Published

Hi everyone! I just wanted to start a thread for applicants of the nursing program at Miami Dade College for Fall term 2017. I'm currently working on my last prerequisites and will be finished this semester. I plan on taking the HESI A2 in January and applying for the Generic and Part time tracks.

hi guys!!! so glad i found this forum. i am also applying for the fall. full time. taking my hesi later this month and if i have to retake it again in the April. I am really nervous but hoping for the best. my science GPA is only a 3.3 hope i can score well enough to get in. good luck to all!!!

Also, for anyone who already took the hesia2 can you please let me know what to expect from each subject? at least what you could remember. especially in math and chem which are my weak subjects. really appreciate it :)

You'll have a calculator present for the math so I would focus more on chemistry . The hesi book material is roughly similar to the test.

Ok thanks so much. I was hoping it would be the material covered in the book but I hear a lot of people saying there's a lot of material on the exam that wasn't covered in the book. Praying for the best.

Hi Everyone!

I'm applying for the Accelerated Option for Fall 2017! I've had all my pre reqs completed, just studying for the HESI to take it next weekend. I'm super nervous! Any tips for the exam?

I'm also taking my HESI next week, so stressed out! Anybody who took HESI recently would like to share their experience?

I'm finally taking mine this week. :nailbiting: Good luck, monikute89!

Hi,

i can say from my experience I studied the Hesi assessment study guide and it helped me a lot but some things are stuff you learned in lecture. As far as math make sure you feel comfortable adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplying fractions. You will do great!

Hey All! I'm currently a student at Broward College and looking to apply to MDC nursing program for Fall as a transition student. Does anyone know the process for a transition student who currently holds a LPN license. I'm looking to go to medical campus.. what advisors should I speak to or who would you suggest? Any information is appreciated. I'm trying to decide whether to defer my seat in Broward which starts in May and Just go to Miami Dade.

I primarily used the HESI A2 Pocket Prep app ($12, I think). Just did a few questions every other day leading up to the exam. Got a 88.86%.

Here are SOME things if I remember correctly on my exam...

Math 96%: A lot of ratios, fractions, decimals, percents, conversions, and measurements. Some algebra, word problems and of course general math.

Biology 92%: Cell components of plant and animal. Mitosis and meiosis. Cell transport systems. Basic bio terms and topics.

Chemistry 84%: Chemistry is not one of my strongest subjects but again basic stuff you learn in high school/ early college. Atoms and what they are made up of, acid and bases, type of bonds, basic periodic table concepts.

A&P 80%: Know general topics about every body system. Parts and simple general functions.

For example… parts of the brain:

Cerebrum- movement and sensory input

cerebellum- muscular coordination

occipital lobe- vision

Make it as simple as possible.

My problem area was the hormones and what glands they are released from.

My lowest scored section was A&P because I just didn't know how to fully prepare for such a broad subject at the time and I had the class 5 years ago.

Grammar 88%, vocab 90% and reading comp 92% were all topics I used the app to review. For grammar the app was helpful review as I haven't touched parts of a sentence (pronoun, noun, predicate) in years.

Again this is just stuff I remember, not everything so take it with a grain of salt!

Congrats. Whats your GPA?

I just got out of my test. I have a 4.0 science GPA and scored a 91 on the HESI A2. :)
