MDC *Generic F/T* Fall 2011 ;-D

Published

hi and congrats to all of us! i made this thread so we could all exhange info for out ft cohort. that way we won't get mixed up with the other p/timers and ao track! congrats to them too!

for those who are just tuning in:

  • our orientation is july 18th, the ati assessment is july 19. mark your calendars!
  • we do need to get titers for 2 tb's, mmr, varicella and hep b is highly suggested! i think hep a too!
  • the program is 4 semesters. we graduate in december 2012!!!!!!:yeah::yeah::yeah:
  • we have to turn in all our paper work for orientation, which includes our drug screen, health record, background check(i think they receive this from the actually company though)
  • make your ati account!!! atitesting.com

what i have left to do:

  • get my drug screen and 2nd tb! should go tomorrow.
  • uhhh all my titers actually
  • my unform--although i've already gotten my skirt for clinicals (don't wear pants), i don't have the top or lab coat!!!
  • get my books-- i've gotten supplementals like an nclex book and stuff but not the actual texts.

what i have done to get ready:

  • i am going on a diet! healthy meals all day! i don't want to gain 10+ lbs--don't like the idea of being an unhealthy nurse lol
  • going over some, but not all a&p--mostly bones, muscles, heart, endocrine, and stuff like that.
  • cleaning out my room to make more space.
  • i got an extra desk--its big and spacious for those late night study sessions. i have another one but its small. mostly for the computer. but it has lots of shelves for my "enjoyment books".
  • i am cleaning my shelves(i have lots) and organizing the books by subject (anatomy, physio, patho, bio, chemistry, dictionaries, etc) and as time goes by, i'll put the nursing books as follows: (fundamentals, health assessments, pharmacology, patho, medsurge, specialties, references/dictionaries, review books)
  • i'm cleaning my filing cabinet out but i am making copies of all my important documents, including my health record incase mdc loses it, lol. so i'll have files for my health docs, extra copies of my other valuable docs(house docs, car docs, insurance etc), and drug screen results. i'm also going to keep file of my ap notes. this is all for simplicity!!!
  • i'm going to buy those under-bed storage bins to store my extras-- extra back packs, extra office supplies, and my sewing supplies(yes i love crafts)
  • make sure my dental appointments and my dog's shots are up to date!!!
  • i printed a ton of "grocery list/menu planner" sheets. i am going to put it on a magnetic clipboard and put it on my white board. every week or month i am going to pick out a day just for meal planning and grocery shopping. i am going to work it out so that the first semester i only have to go shopping twice a month. most of my meals, if they turn out alright lol, will be freezer meals.
  • i think i need to buy a mini freezer lol
  • i'm going to do all my fun stuff before school starts. i want to go to the zoo and see some museums and other geeky stuff with my mum. might not be able to for a while :crying2:

what other misc stuff are you doing to organize your life? i *love* organizing :redbeathe any tips would be great!!!!!can't wait :D :yeah::nurse::redbeathe:eek::p:rolleyes::D:clown:

I finally found shoes that fit comfortably!!:yeah: Woohoooo, :w00t:what a mission it has been. My feet are weird - smallish, boxy, high arch - so everything had a tight "box." However, I discovered Timberland Professional Women's slip-ons.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00295RJY4

There is a "wide" width, so that was perfect. They were $86 for the white - the other colors are more expensive. A little expensive, but not as much as some - and if they are comfy for school, it's worth it!! (I just hope they last for a loong time) :D

I bought those last year!!!! they are awesome! I was actually considering getting them again because I liked them so much!

I have ski's ... as in very long very narrow feet :/ does anyone know where I can find shoes that will.work for me? I normally fall.out of clogs and such, so I am nervous about finding shoes online ...

I don't know off hand, but I will look around while I shop. I do EVERYTHING online practically - pay bills, socialize, shop etc. Too lazy to go to the mall :clown: lol

Eagle & Pixie,

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00295RJY4

Are they washable?

When I asked Violeta Figuly if my Merrell Jungle Moc White Leather shoes were acceptable,

she said they "should be" but ultimately it was up to the PIC (person in charge) of me at the clinical site.

Ms. Figuly indicated it was important that they STAY white. So, now I'm thinking of making sure I have

a back-up pair of all-white shoes that can be washed or bleached every week?!

Any input appreciated on the topic. Am I nuts? (nevermind, don't answer that! it was a rhetorical question!)

Hey Fem! :)

I'm not sure how white they stay - eagle would know better, but I know that they are leather uppers so I guess they can be washed by hand. I would also bleach them by hand too.

I found some neat tricks to keep the shoes clean - I copied and pasted them:

  • There are many products on the market for cleaning leather shoes. Leather is leather, so any leather cleaner, be it for jackets or car seats, will also clean your leather shoes.

  1. Shoe wipes can be bought all over and are great for spot cleaning. Some people also use Baby Wipes.
  2. A Clorox Bleach Pen is used by many to spot clean white shoes, especially in seams and in stitching.
  3. Clean-n-Brite is also used by many to safely clean white leather. You can visit website, there is a page about cleaning leather.
  4. KIWI Sport Shoe Scrub-Off Heavy Duty Cleaner has good results.
  5. A Magic Eraser, which you can buy in any art store, has also had good results in spot cleaning shoes.
  6. Permatex DL Hand Cleaner is a product for cleaning skin that works well on almost all leather. You can find this product in hardware stores.
  7. Goo Gone is an excellent cleaner, also often found in hardware stores. Follow the dilution directions on the packet and eventually Goo Gone will remove just about anything.
  8. Goop waterless hand cleaner is another excellent hand cleaning product used by contractors to remove the harshest dirt from skin and as such is also a great leather cleaner. Goop also removes stubborn stains that other products may not reach, and thus is a good first treatment for very dirty shoes.

Hope these suggestions help!

The Magic eraser sounds like a great idea!!! My friend always used clorox wipes. I think if we clean them after every rotation without fail, they will be kept clean. It might be tedious but worth it! Thanks for those awesome ideas!!!

i hope the ideas help - and you are right, we will just have to be diligent in cleaning them after every rotation. on eagles wings, i'm going to put up the link to that great thread we've been reading about the supplies for nursing school (i don't know if we have posted it before, but just in case....)

what are the items you need the most for nursing school:

https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/what-item-s-111796.html

absolutely awesome link!

What do you think? Any others? :clown:
