Hello there. My name is Greg. Im gonna start hopefully the nursing program this fall 2016 in Miami dade college. let me tell you a little about me. Ive graduated from Miami dade college in 2014 with my AA in pre nursing, therefore I have all my pre reqs done. my overall gpa is 3.62 and my science gpa is 3.96. I still haven't taken the hesi exam but I plan on march. Im starting this post because were already in January of 2016 and I would like to meet my future classmates. Please if you starting in fall of 2016 feel free to comment and let us all know your status and strategies on the hesi exam. We can all help each other out. By the way I heard the deadline to apply for the fall term is may 2016.
if you have any questions you may email me. [email protected]
Does anyone know how many applications were submitted? We only have six pages of postings, previous years had three times the amount, I wonder if this is an indication of the number of applicants?
Nope, believe it or not. not many people know of this website. Many of us went into the program not knowing what to expect. Alot of people apply to MDC nursing program. It is well respected.
Make sure you look over your nursing student handbook as well.
I just graduated from the program and have had a friend who flunked out. She failed 3 classes and didn't know she could appeal at least one of those grades. If she did, she probably would've graduated with me. It's too late for her now.
I know you all are eager to get in but wait until that day you'll be eager to finish and get out. Lol, it is what it is.
Also, if you don't understand something ASK ASK ASK ASK SOMEONE. There are tutors available and the professor's door is always open. Get to know some people in your class. Remember, you're all in this together.
You'll be alright. Good luck to you all.
If I can do it, you guys definitely can. I got into the program with a 3.66 gpa. It all depends on the pool of applicants applying. I've heard of people with even lower gpa's than mine get into the program.

Hey I'm new to this posting as well I scored 82.3% on the hesi and I have a 3.9 science gpa and 3.8 cumulative gpa I just completed my AA because I have hopes on getting my bachelors after the AS nursing program. Like everyone else I am extremely anxious because when I put in my application im hoping to get into the homestead campus I was told there are about 120 seats total so this leaves about 60 for Homestead and 60 for medical campus and they get about 700 applications. I just wanted to know how true are those numbers and what was your hesi score thanks

Yes, but don't look at it that way. People do apply to more than one program. I applied to full-time and part time and got accepted to both. I picked full time, so now the part time became available for someone else.
Don't think of what's not in your control. Just send positive thoughts towards your application.

Thanks I know it truly out of my control at this point just praying and staying as positive as I can :)

did your class have to take the hesi or was it the teas and if so what was your score for the entrance exam?

My class actually took a whole different exam, the nln pax-rn. But that test was used for our class and then it got dismissed. I've heard two stories: people got caught cheating and the school didn't feel as if that system was a right fit for them. Many of us scored in the 80's. They basically looked at the pool of applicants science gpas and went from there. The Hesi entrance exam is fairly new, though.

Hi guys! I applied for the fall term coming up.
My advice is don't listen to the "oh I heard this" because from what I have learned applicants usually have no idea what is going on.
When I went to take the Hesi Exam I over heard two girls talking and one of them said "oh I heard that they send all the full time to Homestead Campus and all the part time to Medical Campus" and the other girl responded "oh yeah I heard that too".
After hearing this I freaked out because I live in Miami Beach and I was applying for full time.
When I went to apply I asked my counselor if this is true.
She gave me a funny look and asked where did I hear this from.
She proceeded to tell me that they have in total 150 seats. 100 in Medical and 50 in Homestead. So they first fill in the 100 seats at Medical and then fill in the sits in at Homestead. So depending how well you did (how high you ranked between those 150 accepted students) and where you live that is what campus they will place you in.
I wrote my counselor an email asking when should I expect to hear back from them. This is what she had to say for anyone wondering:
"You will be notified whether you are accepted or not around the middle of June. I would recommend that you begin to check your email twice a day so that you don't miss any correspondence related to the admission decision."
I hope this helps as I know everyone is probably anxious! At least I know I am.
Good luck to everyone! And as soon as anyone gets an acceptance letter/email or any news let us all know! :)
Hey everyone,
Im new to all nurses and wanted to share my experience. I was a transfer student to Miami-dade from FIU where I didn't do too hot in my science classes, but u have a BA in psych so they just transferred over everything applicable. I took all the nursing requirements at Miami-Dade north class and my science gpa is. 4.0 now. I did average on the HESI A2 with. 89.71 cumulative score. I heard the program is competitive so now I'm nervous but remaining positive. I hope we all get in â¤ï¸.
