MDC Accelerated Program

Published

i'm planning to apply to mdc's accelerated nursing program for fall 2009. i just wanted to know if anyone is currently in the prgoram, or has graduated from it already and can provide me with some insight into the prgoram. specifically i'd like to know about the program's level of difficulty, the schedule with classes and clinicals, how thorough the program is, if any scholarship opportunities exist, etc. how succesful are students with the accelerated option? doing well in this program is imperative for me as i plan to get an advanved degree in an extremely competitive area, and a siginificant deciding factor in whether or not i have a shot of acceptance is how well i do in nursing school. is it possible to get all a's in mdc's accelerated program? any information would be helpful and very much appreciated. thanks!

There were 43 students in our starting class last August (08). Three dropped the first week because of scheduling conflicts, or personal reasons, so we were at 40 for the first semester.

It varies per cycle who gets in, but it's strictly by GPA.

Good luck to all of you, and when you're ready to buy books, keep me in mind! I will sell all the ones i have (except my MedSurg text--i want to keep that) for a very inexpensive price.

I can tell you right now that they will tell you to buy the Curriculum, but you don't need it. Honest. Don't let them tell you otherwise. It's $50 you can avoid wasting. :-)

Good luck!

That is SO TRUE!!! Don't buy the curriculum.... Total waste of money. Haven't looked at it even once. It has an inch of dust on it.

LOL. Ok, If I get in this Aug, I'll try to remember not to waste money on the curriculum. Magnesium, as soon as I recieve word on my status (hoping I get it), I will let you know about purchasing your books.

You said it was strictly by gpa...do you know what the average GPA of your incoming class was?

Magnesium don't listen to my sis, I have dibs on your books!

I'm going to have to agree about not buying the curriculum. I'm finishing up 2nd semester, and have never used it. They'll try and tell you that you need it, but don't bother. It will be a waste of 50 bucks.

Ogloria - I just wanted to give you some updated information. I confirmed with MDC Medical Campus today and they said that they start sending out rejection/acceptance letters by June 1st...not July! Good luck.

Ok...I applied today. I hope we all get in!

ANYBODY HELP!!!

I can't believe this is my first post. Just a few questions about the accelerated option, since it is the only option that I applied to. Typically, does the scholars program apply to accelerated students as well, or is it just for generic students? In addition; is there a difference in uniform, and are the classes mixed with both options? Also, in regards to acceptance letters, does a response come quicker if your rejected or do they all get sent out at the same time? Where classes are concerned, do we go on campus as soon as registration opens, or do they make you wait? I really want to follow the curriculum, I'm sure they fill up quickly:eek:. For the first 21 credits, can someone recommend a good professor? I appologize in advance for all the questions, I am just extremely curious and uninformed.

Thank you

hi , i applied also for august 2009 accelerated program at miami dade. I called today and they told me the acceptance letters will be out by the end of june to the first week of july. Gluck to all. I have a 4.0 gpa. If anyone who is already in the program can give me more info about the acceptance letters please let me know. I wanted to know if it is sent by email or by mail.

Thank You

Well you will get accepted with a 4.0, I also have a 4.0; but you never know. I was told to call at the end of the month and they will be able to tell what the minimum gpa was for this term, and that is all the information they can reveal. She said this year holds the record for the highest number of application submissions for accelerated and they only accept 40 applicants. She said last semester the highest gpa accepted was 3.6 and that may not be good enough for this semester, they just can't say until the end of the month. So of course I will keep you posted when I call, as well as when I get notification of acceptance. I'm just praying for a large yellow envelope, as opposed to a small envelope. Another thread states that the acceptance letter comes in a big envelope, because it is full of information and forms.

Just pray!

hey mommy'sgirl thanks for the reply. Yea that's all we can do is wait and pray. I mean yes i have a 4.0 , but you never know right. I'll keep you updated and let me know how it goes for you. ; )

With regards to registration for Accelerated, both generic and accelerated will register the same day on the day you go to orientation once you have been accepted to the program. With regards to the blending of the two tracks in classes, the two groups do not take classes with each other. All accelerated students take there classes together in the same block. With regards to picking professors, while some professors are listed in the class schedules used to register, there are also a majority that say TBA, meaning there has been noone assigned to teach the class as of yet at time of registration so you are going into those sections blindly and hoping for the luck of the draw. With Miami Dade, even when some teachers are listed to be teaching the class they often turn around and switch teachers so be prepared. Miami Dade does through curve balls to there students so be prepared to do a lot of the foot work yourselves, since disorganization will rear its ugly head at some point or another during your attendance. Good luck.
