MCCCD Nursing - Campus Choices

Published

Hey all!

I am wondering which Maricopa campuses you've chosen to including in your application and why? I've heard how wonderful the Mesa program is. What are your 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th choices and why?

My choices are as follows:

1.) Mesa traditional

2.) Mesa afternoons/evenings

3.) Chandler Gilbert

4.) Scottsdale

5.) Gateway traditional

I reeeeally want to get into Mesa, which is why I chose both programs. It's close to my house and I'm familiar with the campus and the nursing advisors. It also has good NCLEX pass rates. I'm just most comfortable there.

Chandler Gilbert is actually closer to my house, but I put it as my third choice because of all of the mixed reviews. I'm nervous about having it as a choice at all because of it, but practicality won that internal debate. I'm fairly familiar with the campus as I have taken a class there before.

I have never been to Scottsdale or Gateway, but Mapquest says they are the next closest to me. I currently work right by Gateway and the 10 is a nightmare in rush hour traffic, which is why I put that as my 5th choice. I wanted to choose 5 schools because I just want to get in come the fall. One more month before placement!!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but for those choosing CGCC based on location please keep in mind that the nursing classes are mostly, if not all, held at the satellite campus off Power and the 202.

I could be wrong on this because things do change, but I once took an English class through CGCC that was at the satellite campus. I always saw nursing students there either studying in the cafeteria or coming out of their classes in scrubs.

Just keep that in mind when using the main campus location as a basis for choosing this program.

Well poop, you are right. I just looked up the nursing classes on class search and they are held at the Williams campus on Ray and Recker. It's still the closest CC to me (I'm between the two CGC campuses). Did you hear anything from the nursing students on the program? I have heard such mixed reviews, it's weird.

This was about 5 years ago, so I don't even know lol. I can say that I haven't actually heard anything good about that program, but that I didn't really look much into it because I never intended to apply there.

From what hat ive seen here, no one has really posted about it being bad in a few years and it's been like 5 or so years since there was a testing/student wildly known issue going on there.

I'm currently in block 2 at CGCC. I can say that I have had a really good experience so far and I'm really glad that I chose this program! They have completely changed the curriculum and it has worked out great so far! All of our instructors have been awesome and truly want to help you succeed. I'm not sure why you've heard bad things thus far, but I just wanted to give a different point of view :)

I am really happy to hear something so recent and positive. It's a huge relief for me. Thanks so much!

I have a cgcc q- I'm going back and forth between cgcc/nau and the asu post bac. The asu post bac has icu as one of its immersion/preceptorship choices and I'm wondering if cgcc does as well.
