Can anyone tell me what classes you take for your first semster at MCC??? I've tried looking up the courses on the Maricopa website but the only class I find is Nursing Theory. What other classes do you take?? I'm going to Mesa Community College but I believe the classes are ther same for any Maricopa Community College RN Nursing Program. Thanks for any input!!

hi there!
first of all, congrats for getting in! i know for some people it has been a long wait.
anyway, i go to mesa community college-boswell. and i am in block 2. you will be entering with a new curriculum. my class were the guinea pigs...and what we thought of the new curriculum were ok. a little disorganized but after a semester, it was better. as far as what classes i was taking back in block 1, theres nursing theory, pharmacology, and clinicals. they use to register nursing theory and pharm separately but now all 3 are under nur 151. i dont know as far as scheduling goes over at the MCC main but im sure regardless of how many days you go to school, clinical hours will be the same.
i hope i answered ur questions.
:)So is that 12 credits ?? So you have two classes and clinicals?? Is that right? Sorry I ask so many questions I'm just curious about how many classes I have to juggle w/clinicals. I have to work part-time while I'm in my first year of nursing school but I want to get an idea of how many hrs I should only work. Thanks for your help!
NUR 151 is not full time...i believe it is 3/4 time...i forgot how many credits but i know it is 3/4 time instead of full. part time job would probably be your best bet for block 1 although i know some students who have full time jobs...but of course, they know what the schedule is like at the boswell campus...and if you do decide to get full time, talk to your boss...im sure theyll be flexible enough to work with ya.
and oh...about clinicals...over at boswell, we had 2 days worth of lecture, then the next two days clinicals.

At PC, with the new curriculum, things are just kind of lumped together. There aren't really specific classes like pharmacology or fundamentals. You just start with the more basic skills and fundamentals and advance throughout the semester. I know block 2 focuses on med surg, block 3 I believe is OB and Peds, maybe Psych. Not too sure about block 4.
151 is 10 credit hours. If you take the review course, that's another credit, but still leaves you one short of full time.
As far as working goes, I've been able to work 16 hours a week just fine.
Yeah I've been thinking of working about 15hrs a week too. Thanks guys!:thankya:

I will at MCC with you in the fall! Congrats to us-finally! I talked to a friend that is currently in Block 2 at MCC and she said that her Block 1 consisted of two days classes ( the class schedule for next fall says class times for NUR 151 are from 9-11:50 M and T) and then clinicals on W and Th (which will eventually be from 6:30/7:00 am to 3:30/4:00ish??? once you are at a clinical site vs. learning our skills in lab for the first part of the semester). Of course this schedule may not be the case for us but hopefully it will be close.
I will be working 2-3 days per week as well and working out preschool and daycare so I understand the stress of juggling it all-especially when we aren't quite sure what to expect!
That's awesome that your going to MCC too! It's nice to know others going in the same nursing program as you. Yeah I just read that we got our welcome packets so our schedule looks exactly like you described. PM me anytime, it would be really cool to know a handfull of other nursing students entering the NP with us.
When did you receive your nursing packet? I haven't got mine yet...
Oh they are sending them via email not through postal. It's something new there trying!

Hey! I see that you're all about to start Block 1 at MCC in the fall!! congrats! I'm in block 1 there right now and it's been really fun! The best part is probably the instructors..they are FABULOUS. Always very helpful..loved them to death! And you will meet people that become your best friends, it's awesome.
It's a fairly easy block but does require A TON of reading and studying. You will literally read Kozier front to back..and the style of NCLEX questions takes some getting used to but that's probably the most difficult part.
Anyone in block 2 that can give me some advice?? What's block 2 like?? I chose banner desert as my first choice and gateway as my second choice for clinicals..any comments on those?
