mcc block 3

Anyone attend block 3 at mcc, just wanted to see how it is since I think I just failed block 3 at my school Chandler-gilbert CC due to the new rule on having to get 76% test score average in order to pass. What a load of crap I think, if you pass then you should pass. thx

I thought that all of the schools had the 76% pass rate on test grades only because it was mandated by azbon. MCC held us to that for all of the 4 blocks that I attended.

As for Block 3, it's divided into two week segments; psych and med surg. Psych requires ALOT of writing but it really isn't difficult. Medsurg consists of hematology, immunity, gi, endocrine, and renal. The tests are written at the application/analysis level so you really need to understand the concepts being covered.....I didn't think that it was that difficult, alot of the concepts were covered in Block 2, but they went just a little bit deeper in Block 3

I am interested on transferring to MCC as well. I also failed Block III at Chandler Gilbert Community College (12/07) and I have never failed a class before, plus I was an A student on my prereqs and an honor student in H.S. I was very devastated and depressed. I started to ask myself, "Am I that stupid?" but then I said, "wait a minute, if only 2 out of 36-38 students in our class passed our third exam and the class average was at 61% then maybe it's not me. Students were pretty much failing the whole semester and many did not pass after finals. I heard that those who passed just barely made it, some are even at exactly 76%. In addition, we lost 12 or more students in our Block II at CGCC, I survived that but it was a struggle.

How about MCC? I heard that it is a very good school, I would like to transfer, the problem is the advisor told me that their Block III is full for the Spring Semester. Please let me know how many students failed in your Block III. Thank you in advance. By the way, Chandler Gilbert Community College has many spots available as always (Block III and IV) ...no wonder!

I think we lost about 4 people in Block 3....One was for clinical performance and the other 3 were due to process......I absolutely loved the program there so I am a little biased. The instructors were very helpful and they gave you the resources you needed to succeed. Did they say if you would be able to be placed on a waiting list for Spring? You never know if someone decides not to return....... We had about 5 students who transferred from CGCC for Block 3 and they couldn't believe the difference between the two schools.......It's most likely because it is one of the more established programs in the CC system and the instructors have been teaching for awhile.....

The advisor at MCC did not mention anything about waiting list but that is a good thing to ask. Perhaps the reason why I didn't ask before was because when I asked Gateway they said there are more than 30 students waiting and they don't want to give hope for students so I figured it will be the same case with MCC since they are both popular schools. Did those five who transferred to MCC failed their Block III at CGCC? or they transferred after finishing Block II at CGCC successfully? Could you please advise? Thanks for your help! :)

They transferred into Block 3 after failing it at CGCC. Of the 5 only one person didn't pass at MCC. We only had one person fail Block 4 and that was due to clinical performance.....

Wow! that is amazing! I have never heard of almost 100% passing in Block IV, actually I would say that's a 100% because one failed due to clinical performance and not the Nursing Process which is what I am most worried about. I actually passed my Pharmacology In Block III so it's only the NP that I have to repeat. I just e-mailed the nursing advisor at MCC to ask if I would be able to be placed on a waiting list for Spring, I really hope I get in, thank you for all your advice!

Hey all. I'm not sure about the rest of the schools in the Valley, but I just finished Block III at PC and we ALSO have the 76% requirement and have had it since the first block. Not sure what else to say about that thou....

I just graduated from MCC Rio Salado Program. Like every other program, it has its bumps and holes. The third block was probably very much like the third block you just failed. However, be aware that, as many others have told you, a 76% is required to pass. For classes with only a final exam you must earn a 76% or better on that single test. It doesn't matter what you get on the quizzes or other assignments until you have passed that test with 76%. If you have classes with one or two midterms and a final, the requirement is 76% or better average between the tests. After that the grades you make on the quizzes etc. are figured in. The 76% passing is standard for the state of Arizona. I can tell you that for the first 3 blocks that I took with MCC Rio, I would not have incouraged my worst enemy to attend the program. It says a lot for the school that they went through a complete administrative housecleaning between our 3rd and 4th blocks. The nursing program has a new director named Sue Adams, and a completely new staff to work with and assist students. I am still not thrilled with their program, but I have to admit that the new staff seems much more willing to be of assistance to the students. The old staff was not as accomodating. Like any program there are problems, and if you are looking for the easy way out, don't take this class. It is more difficult than the traditional classes simply because you have to stay on top of all of your didactic lessons and be prepared for your clinicals without having a teacher sitting over you reminding you of every little thing. And since you don't have a teacher lecturing to you for 3-5 hours at a time, you must also be willing to expand your knowledge beyond what is in your text books. Make sure that you use all the resources available to you. Look things up on the internet, ask health care co-workers or, if you have questions about the pharmalogical end of things, think about things like calling your local pharmacist. I did that with regard to medications for which licorice was contraindicated. I could not figure out if that meant black licorice, all the colours of licorice or if it was the herbal root licorice and the contraindication had nothing to do with the candy. My local pharmacist was kind enough to help me understand a great deal about a lot of the meds I was having problems with. Don't know if this will help, but do your homework and don't try to transfer without knowing more about the next ground you will be stepping onto.
