Mayo Clinic Summer III 2021 Nursing Externship -Rochester

Published

Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread to learn more about others who are applying for the program. I've read posts from past cohorts and thought it would be a great way for us to meet each other. I can't wait to hear from you all! ?

Specializes in Patient Care Technician.

Their website says notifications are not processed until late Feb.

@Jess H The top 100 students are asked for placements and additional information at the end of January (based on previous threads). Final decisions are made in Feb.

I watched the "Mayo Clinic Nursing Career Opportunities" Youtube video and they also confirmed that the top 100 are notified in late Jan & soft deadline of final decisions by Valentine's Day.

That makes more sense!!

Specializes in NICU Extern.

Ugh I keep checking my application. I get more nervous as the week goes on! How’s everyone holding up?

Specializes in EMT, CNA, Nursing Student.

I am getting really nervous. I am hoping we all receive great news! I'll keep you guys updated!

I’m so nervous too! I have no idea how I am going to pay attention in class on Friday.  Also I watched the “Mayo Clinic Opportunity” video that someone mentioned and now I am more nervous!   How are everyone’s classes going?

@JTube I just started my Spring semester today and found out my community clinical is going to be completely online ? Psych is still going to be in person though, so that's still good news! Haven't had theory yet, so not sure how my classes are going to be this sem. How are yours?

My anxiety levels are definitely rising as time passes by. I just want to know! I was wondering what route you guys went with your essays? I talked about my experiences, family, and community. Sort of trying to tie it in with their values. I tried keeping mine short since I'm sure they have so many to go through but now I'm nervous about that!

The essay topic was so broad! It was difficult for my to pinpoint certain topics to talk about, but I talked about my community upbringing too! I tied those values with why I wanted to become a nurse. Also discussed a project my friends and I took on during the pandemic to help our community. I ended my essay with a specific patient experience that changed my insight on nursing. total of 2 pages I hope that isn't too long ):<

I’m getting nervous too! For my essay, I just wrote about what I think sets me apart as a nursing student, and some volunteer opportunities I’ve done. It was a really broad topic though and hard to figure out what exactly to write!

Hi all! I'm new to allnurses.com. I came here specifically for this thread! I applied too. I'm so nervous and can't wait to get news from Mayo. Wishing you all good luck!

Awe that is such a bummer about your clinical! It is the worst when they change things last minute!

Because it was such a broad topic, I made my essay humorous. Hopefully it made my essay engaging, but who knows ?.
