Mayo clinic arizona for february 2016

Published

Hello! Who has applied for the MAYO CLINIC RN RESIDENCY? It was available online from October 13 to 15 of 2015. The new grad program will start on February 2016.

1. What day did you apply?

2. Did you do clinicals, preceptorship or externship at any Mayo facility?

3. Have you worked for Mayo before?

4. Tell us about yourself!

5. Or anything else :)

I just want to meet more who did the same as me and we can update each other here! Thanks! :D

That's great! Sounds like you did well then! I am in the NAU/CEP program at Scottsdale. Myself and 4 other people were interviewed in our class. I was an extern there over the summer and three others are current employees, but one girl has a lot of health care experience. I am not sure how many or how long interviews will go for but I heard from another student that there will be around 75 interviews. Just hearsay though! Will be on the edge of my seat until I hear back!

Same here! Overall, its a great experience to be even considered! Which floors have you been in? Which floor did you extern at? I did my preceptorship in cardiac tele. Also ive been in 2w, and 3w. What were your top 3 choices? Do you know anyone who interviewed for critical care? You gotta tell me if yoi get any updates :)

Specializes in Psych, TRT..

Have not heard very good things about how Mayo clinic treats their nurses and have a few reputable sources.

Exactly! I am honored just to be picked from the pile for an interview. I externed on 7West (hematology/oncology), and will be doing my preceptorship starting next week on 7E. I know one person who interviewed for critical care, but the rest are mainly med-surg interviews. I've done all my rotations there except for critical care so I haven't been on any of those floors. That's awesome you have that critical care experience there, that seems hard to come by for those wanting a specialty. I am pretty sure I put my top 3 choices as 7W, Progressive/step down, and then 4E (bone marrow transplant). I would take anywhere though, I have loved every floor. What floors are your top choices? Were your scenarios critical care based like patients on a vent, etc? or were they pretty general? What school did you graduate from?

and yes I will be sure to update you if I hear anything at all, and I hope you will do the same! These next two weeks are going to be filled with nerves every time the phone rings or I get an email. :nailbiting:

They asked pretty general things actually. Kinda surprised me hehe. I came from Gateway and I did all block 4 there. My top 3 were floors I had been in. Hehe! But yes, anywhere is great!

Do you work in healthcare?

yes!! I will update you if theres anything! Haha! When did they tell you theyre going to make a decision?

I was told they should have a decision by Thanksgiving and I would hear directly from HR at that point.

I've been a private caregiver, but besides my summer externship I don't have direct acute care experience. You?

Same here, I was told around Thanksgiving. I am so nervous now! It's only like 2 weeks right? OMGGGGGGEEE!!! HAHAHAH! Well, at least you are graduating in December right?!!

I was a CNA nd Unit Secretary. That's good you're a caregiver! Great experience! I wish I had known about the summer externship. I didn't even kow :( What are the requirements for the summer externship? Thanks!

Wow that's awesome! Did you work at Mayo or another valley hospital?

I've had my eye on the opportunity since before nursing school, I can't even remember how I came across it to be honest. Anyway, the requirements were to be in your 2nd or 3rd semester of nursing school and you interviewed with the nursing coordinator (much like the residency process). It was 10 weeks and 3 12-hour shifts per week. It was an awesome learning experience.

Are you still working as a CNA or unit secretary?

No. I don't work now haha.

Oh man! I wish I knew about that! What gpa did they require and how many people did they take? Did the lady remember you from the nurse externship? Lol

Sorry I had my final today so I've been off the internet cramming! I am not sure what GPA they were looking for everyone seemed to have at least a 3.75 and up but not sure that was as important as the interview. I think she did remember me because she asked about how I enjoyed my externship! :) I think there were around 26 of us.

Oh nice! I remember my finals!!! Ahhh! Its a make or break! How was your final? Also, do you still have to do preceptorship? Wheres yours at? :)

Hey! I was wondering if your status changed at all online? Have you heard anything? :)

My application looks like it was never in review. It went from received to no longer considered. I knew it was a long shot since I graduate in December and didn't have clinicals or an externship there…since I obviously live in a different state lol but I am definitely going to try for the next time around because I will be licensed by then and hopefully will have better luck! But thanks for asking I hope you hear back soon! Good luck :)
