Hello!
I am an Army wife and a nurse. My DH and I are trying to make the best decision regarding our next duty station with one of the choices being Ft Drum, NY. I have a few questions and would like any input I can get.
1) I have an ADN and by the time I move will have about 1 year of nursing under my belt. Do hospitals in NY hire ADNs? If so, what is the avg starting rate?
2) What are the schools like? Not only school for me to continue to the BSN level, but schools for the kids? My oldest son will be going into 7th grade and my youngest will be going into 2nd grade.
Again, any info would be great!
Thanks in advance!

Hi I was stationed at Ft.Drum for 5yrs....I will tell you now if he can get orders to go anywhere else...skip Ft.Drum.. I would not go. It is cold as you know what up there . One field exercise we where on and the temp. drop to 50 below 0 zero now that's cold . I think there is one hosp. downtown a few yrs ago the nurses went on strike. That happened more than 10 yrs ago so I can't tell how it is now. Syracuse ny which is about 70 miles away has a great hosp. Crouse Irving memorial I think..I did not like Ft.Drum because of the weather the area is very laid back and from what I have been told the area is groing fast. The local city is called watertown the biggest money getter for that area when I was there was Ft.Drum so go figure. Warning stay away Please from the black river!!!!!!!!! many soldiers have died in that river. Tell your husband if he chooses to go to Ft.Drum to climb to the top!! 10TH Mountain Division all the way... Good luck and stay safe.
