Math Help? What is the correct answer.

Can anyone tell me the answer to this problem.

The physician orders ceftriazone sodium 50 mg/kg of body weight, in divided doses every 12 hours for a child who weghs 66 poinds. Calculate the body weight, then determine how many milligrams will the child receive in each dose?

i don't blame you for being apprehensive.

especially where most instructors got 750mg and your instructor got 1500mg.

i'm sure it has to do with the way the question was worded.

Ok according to my professor the answer is 1500 mg per dose. I did ask other nurses and instructors and they all seem to get 750 mg per dose as I did. I dont know what will be done about the situation.

I'd be willing to bet that your instructor hasn't actually worked as a floor nurse in a few years. Shame on her for trying to confuse you before you get to clinical. :trout:

Hopefully in the real world, you'd either call the doc or talk to Pharmacy and get the dose stated, so there would be no misunderstanding.
