Specialties Educators

Published

I have a Master's degree in nursing education. Every job I apply to, they want experience.

Now, this is my last resort as to what else I can do as far as career choices with my degree.

My interest is working online.

What types of jobs are out there for MSN-ED?

Specializes in none at the moment.

Thanks for the Insight! I'll be sure to look into these pathways as well Thank You!!

If you are looking at a community college teaching position, every Associate Dean in my state attends the AODN workshops. I am not sure if that is the same in your area.

Start your own education business. Schools are nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get into - especially in densely populated areas. I had my MSN for years before I was able to land a faculty position.

Once I did land the job, I loved teaching the students, but I HATED working in the academic setting. After a while, I stepped down from full-time faculty to just teach clinical and simulation because it was less stress, and more money.

After years of trying to change the status quo and getting nowhere fast, I decided to leave academia and focus on staff development and pursue entrepreneurship. You don't even need a Master's Degree to be an amazing nurse entrepreneur, but it definitely helps you to position yourself as an authority in nursing education.

Now, I have a part-time remote position as a staff development nurse educator for a large hospital group in Baltimore, and I run my own nursing education and consulting business - and I LOVE my job!

Good luck to you!

Love your story!  How do you keep up with the changes in NCLEX format and the test blueprint?

Thank you!

I look for updates, postings, webinars, and news from the NCSBN regularly and reach out to them if I have any specific questions. They really do want individuals to be successful, so anything short of giving away the answers, they've been helpful.

Best,

That's good to know! Thanks

Damion,

That is a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing!  To stay on top of NCLEX changes, I just attended a webinar for Nurse Think (nursethink.com) - a whole new program dedicated to teaching virtual clinicals now for the next wave of nursing grads. Interesting program as they have mirrored it to the new NCLEX guidelines. If your interested the next webinar for it is October 9th @ 3:00 pm Central Time with Dr. Bristol.

I try to stay on top of the new changes as well, considering I have had my MSN now myself for a couple of years - I live very remote (unfortunately) and since COVID has hit moving is not a possibility at this moment in time for me. So, I was looking into online teaching but this has become extremely hard to find or break into and what I hear from everyone is to start teaching clinicals first... but your story is definitely interesting and something I definitely will think about.

This will be the next development in nursing education! Plans for clinical experiences when the hospital says "no" to students! This goes on the list of "If I was younger....".  NurseThink is Nurse Tim's company. He loved his you tube videos when there were on. He definately had some good ideas for learning during your nursing school time and pre-NCLEX.

Everyone, thanks for this feed, I finish my education program in April and am hoping to find a position as an adjunct professor at the community college or even at my alma mater if possible. The information about the ADON conferences is definitely helpful and I never even thought about making business cards ??‍♀️.... who knew?!
